Ever get tired of meeting the same old people in every town? There's always a king, some knights, maybe a priest, weapons merchant, items merchant, an innkeeper, and a bartender. Of course any real city provides far more services and occupations!

I would like to share an excellent article by S. John Ross. http://www222.pair.com/sjohn/blueroom/demog.htm
Ross's demographics are based on European medieval fantasy. Among other things, he includes a suggested list of occupations for townspeople. My question for the RPG community is, what occupations would you add to this list? Who would you like to meet in a fantasy town?

A very interesting article no doubt, but I would not put more than one hundred npcs in a village in rpg maker lol.
Among the professions that list the article I did not see the alchemist and the bard (if you can consider these two a profession)
I find very useful formulas for example to determine what quantity and quality of inns must be in a town / city using the number of people who reside there. Thanks for sharing the article! :thumbsup-right:

I think its always interesting when authors put professions that are specific to their world and not just generic fantasy stuff. Off the top of my head are the Zodiac key stores in Fairy Tail or the chip stores in Megaman Battle Network.

It's also awesome when they have NPCs that wouldn't make sense anywhere else due to in game events such as the booth people of the Millenium Fair in Chrono Trigger.

An all-female race of aggressive, space-faring conquerors would be cool.

@Saltwater Croc - There was quite a well known text adventure called "Leather Goddesses of Phobos" a couple or more decades ago. It was humorous, and a little risque for its time. You could always try running a copy in DosBox for inspiration. There is a site with a name similar to "Good Old Games" that do downloads of old games.

Don't forget, aspiring writers: Personality isn't what your characters do, it is WHY they do it.
Hello! I would like to know if there are any pluggings or any way to customize how battles look?
I was thinking that when you start the battle for it to appear the eyes of your characters and opponents sorta like Ace Attorney.
Sadly I don't know how that would be possible so I would be needing help! If you can help me in any way I would really apreciate it!
