Why are Icons so hard to decide on?

Imo Icons are play a strong supporting role in a game.

I really love the simplicity of the RTP Icons in MV. They remind me of the older rpg icons from games like the early Dragon Warrior series and even Chrono Trigger. (Which are my inspirations for development). And I don't know if that nostalgia is what's holding me back on deciding but I just cannot decide if I want detailed Icons like the ones Avery makes (Which are amazing) or the generic simplistic ones from the RTP.

The icon sheet posted here I made from the RTP (It uses MV and a few MZ icons) Each color represents a different purpose.
Yellow/Dark Orange/Red: Weapons
Green: Armor
Purple: Crafting components
Blue: Consumable/Vendor Trash Items
Orange: Quest Items
Black: Special Undetermined use
Pinkish: Key/Important Items

I like the order this creates within the item windows and not having to color the item name text. However, the allure of more detailed icons adds a different feel.

I know go with what you want because it's your game, but I would love some feedback on how others view icons!

while it can be used like that, there are some that are SPECIFIC that
has to be on the right place, like states and buffs.

all others can be changed if not the entire sheet to your liking.
I use bigger icons, and customize them, instead of using default.
because I dont like the frames it is used.

there are some remakes of them which looks 10x better than default,
some have frames included if you like to add them.

Oh I agree the state Icons are pretty much as is. I was leaning more towards equipment and items. My biggest thing for this set is it lacks more diverse 'skill' icons of this style.

@ShadowDragon Where can I look at them?

this one might be a populair one as they a just nice [Avy's Icon Workshop]
there are 2-3 other ones, but I dont recall the name of them, you might
search them, but I think most choose Avy's and some alter it slightly to
fit their game, WhteDragon might be one too, but not sure.

Finding diverse skill icons are the hardest thing to me lol. But also finding a style to match it all.
Caz's icons https://cazwolf.itch.io/ are really good imo.

welp, thanks to Luna MV, I was able to add the Balloon as a window... thus allowing me to edit the font color and outline... so now it looks like comic bubbles above characters. I have NO idea why I couldn't get this to work through more conventional means, but here we are.
