Why does my skill kill the monster? O.o

So, I'm working on a game (obviously), with something of a twist, in terms of the point of battles.

In any case, the problem is that the basic attack doesn't do deal damage (pretty much as intended with tweaked formula currently resulting in zero or less damage dealt), but when I use a skill to halve the enemy DEF score (Apply State, DEF*50%), the enemy... dies. Two zero-damage strikes, then halve defense, and the thing instantly dies.

What am I missing here?

Is the state the first in the list? That's hardcoded to be the Death state.

Otherwise dunno.

yeah, first and foremost, don't mess with Skill 1 and 2, and States 1 and whatever it is the other state for guard... Do it and you're doomed to encounter problems...


Also have you tried to use it first instead of after the zero-damage ones?

And where does it state in your post that you don't use death as a status?

Be a bit more descriptive before you go around 'derping' people :p

...Crud, what did Skill 2 default to again? *Groan*

Not quite back to the drawing board, but a couple of swift revisions should do the trick. :p

skill 1 => attack


skill 2 => guard


State 1 => death


State something => guard *check this by using a new project*

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
