Why hack my Netflix account?

Today I received three emails about changing my password on netflix a service I recently canceled. It seems someone was trying reset the password as they already new my email. Next I believe they would attempt to hack my email to reset the password. Long story short I changed to a new email address that is not so well known. But I wonder what hackers would want with this information. Are they trying to sign me up for services so they can binge watch their favorite netflix tv shows. Well actually they want hack my account and then sell it on the black market. The link below explains it in better detail.

Your netflix account is connected with your bank account. It's not too farfetched to think they'd use this leverage into your personal life to steal your bank information.

My Microsoft Live email is riddled with phishing emails. It's kind of sad that there is even need for the "report phishing" button in Live, when my Yahoo and Gmail inboxes filter that nasty stuff automatically.

My Live isn't even linked to my Paypal and every week I check it, there is some kind of "Please login to your PayPal" from officialPayPalpaypal.randy627.bravenet.com... (yikes! the forum almost tried to link to that nasty fake email: replacing @ with a smiley.)

If the Netflix is a subdomain of another domain and not of the official domain, that's an easy way to spot a con. You might want to double check the email.

It was a genuine email. Someone really did try to change the password to get in. I confirmed it with netflix rep. But I did not know until reading the article that they sold hacked accounts on the black market.
