Why I like to play Hearthstone and watch Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series

It's simple.

Hearthstone is one of the first games to do card games really visually.

While it somewhat hinders how fast the new cards are made, the tradeoff is really worth it. It's satisfying to see Pyroblast ready and then releasing it on the opponent's face (or their hero's anyway.)

Closer we get to stuff like Duel Disks etc, more it draws people in. It might not dominate overall society as in fiction but ability to insert cards to device and having them visually appear in front of you sounds damn cool even in practice.

RMMV
I'm a big Hearthstone fan, and I love watching professional player Trump stream his arena runs. I mainly run Priest, Paladin and Shaman decks with the cards I have so far, and I ALWAYS spend my gold on arena runs, averaging ~5 wins usually. (my drafts are never godly, my highest was 7 wins)  Game's great cause it really is a casual card game (with a decent amount of fixed RNG, or sometimes you get just super lucky or super unlucky), yet advanced enough to be worth studying and taking seriously in terms of meta decks.

As for yugioh, the anime series went downhill super fast when GX started imo, where things just went derp left and right, and even though card effects and rules were bullshitted ever since season 1, it just got worse and worse. x_x

I still play the card game on YGOPRO, which is an automated version of the website DuelingNetwork.

Yeah, Yu-Gi-Oh! series used to be quite dark and then they made Zexal and Arc-V spin-off series that had its dark moments but less so than for example 5D's. Duels that kill the loser became way less common. GX goes quite dark however as the anime progresses.

I of course talk about the Japanese versions of those shows.

The best part of Yugi-Oh! is the first volumes of the manga before it became about the card game and Yami Yugi was legitimately frightening.

And GX. GX was great. Awesome stories and character dev. Arc is actually pretty good, too. None of the anime really stick to the card games, since the cards are often made through the anime and then a design team has to incorporate and balance them for the actual game.

One way to make believable matches for the series would be make two professionals to play with pre-determined decks (the decks respective characters use) and then record the moves.

Then incorporate it into story match.

Now to take it further, play match early on so that the writing team tailors the story to outcome in outside of cases it would mean protagonist or other important "good guys" would not survive.

Fanfics often do that, but the issue for the production team is that it'd be too much hassle, and not all IRL players play like the characters.

I meant they would be paid, as in having a job to play matches. Being part of production team in other words.

At that point most professionals would adapt to task.

What is funny is that it is canonical part of the story. Author didn't reboot the series, he just continued it like a boss. Later on he tried to keep up making different games to supplement but not a surprise, everyone wanted to see more card combat.

I like to think that the author didn't do it just for money and instead saw opportunity to have a popular card game to be made. As far I know, author of the manga really likes games and that was a driving force to do the series in the first place.

Some of the technology in Yu-Gi-Oh!...so much money spent on a card game! It's fascinating, really.

Someday, we may have card games that create holograms and other cool stuff. Not anytime soon though.

If there is one game that could become insanely popular in card game category like Yu-Gi-Oh! card game in those anime series is... Hearthstone.

Ridiculous amount of people like to watch it on Twitch and even travel to places to watch them "live."

By card game standards, it is already insanely popular amongst card games even though there is this big Magic the Gathering that never got really anywhere as mainstream thing.

I always loved playing Yu-gi-oh, I still have my card deck that I bought with all my sweat and tears (Chores as a kid) and was so much fun to play with other friends, I liked the series too although how funny it was that they made up rules in the series as they go along (Almost as if the producers weren't 100% sure how the game is played) but now Yu-gi-oh has gotten pretty complicated with all this syncro-summon or whatever and the latest series? Card Games on motorcycles? Anyone watched the abridged series of that? hilarious!

Actually latest "gimmick" is Pendulum summon. You place two monsters to left and right side of your normal monster slots with Pendulum type monsters and then you can spawn monsters between those levels as many you have in your hand or extra deck, as long there are enough monster slots.

http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Pendulum_Summon

Of course if it turns out to be grossly overpowered, it can be banned from real tournaments.

Kaiba would be right in a real Yu-Gi-Oh! about Kuriboh being a trash monster/card.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
