Why is my Sparkle effect not working?

Hello, I'm not sure whether this is the right place to ask this but... well I have no idea where else to go. 


I have been trying to highlight objectives(other events) in my game with the use of some basic sparkle effect. This is how I have it set up:

However when I startup the game and activate the *School books* switch the sparkle appears but there is no animation(its just a static image) which makes it a bit difficult to spot. Am I doing something wrong or is this some kind of bug? (and yes and tried changing the both the priority and trigger settings, nothing changed)

I'm going to make a guess here that it is because you have the content of the event to set the same event's location. I'm not sure why. The event will stay where you put it. But what's happening is that because you have it on parallel process, it is constantly resetting the event location. Because of this, and because it's happening so quickly MIGHT be why it appears to be static. Try taking out that event command (you can leave it blank for now) and see what happens.

Well, yes that does make the animation work normally but it also negates the reasons why I want to use it. My intent is to highlight the events the player is meant to interact with a.k.a I need the sparkle event to overlay over another event.

You can't overlay events like that. Map the book onto the table or whatever it will be on and use the sparkle event on top of the tile.

Actually you can, lemme create an example scenario first though.

Thats strange, according to this thread it should be possible: 




And ultimately my problem isn't that the events dont overlay, its just that the sparkle isn't really sparkling.

Man, thanks a lot I would have never figured this one out. Anyways I ended up using a slightly different setup.

Also for anyone who might read this in the future, for this method I had to slightly modify the sprite sheet for the "sparks" to get the effect to have some consistency. Looks something like this.
