Hello everybody, I recently bought the Zombie Survival Graphic Pack and I was impresed by the good detail of the tilesets,
so now I have decided to make a Zombie Game, I started yesterday with the game and its getting good (or at least I think so)
but I have a huge trouble.

The face style of the characters... let me show you and example.

There we have with the RTP facecreator face style, wich is not bad but not great.

and then we have a custom RTP-edited face created by a Japanese artist. (as you can see, I had to change the character name and race, to adjust to the Face)

the faces of the characters are very important to the storyline.

here we have a some of the main playable characters, and as you can see, some of them arent Caucasian-American
however, this changes with the custom faces :

since the game is on a very early stage, I want to hear your opinions about this problem.

Should I stay with the RTP face creator faces? or should I use some customized faces?

If it's JUST the appearance that you're interested in, I'd definitely say go for custom. But you also have to take into account the cost of creating such resources, or the availability of resources/artists, which may increase the appeal of the generated ones. I just don't like the way they all stare straight ahead, and though you can modify them, they still all look a bit expressionless.

btw - this is in the wrong place. If it's about a game you're working on, it doesn't go in Off Topic. However, I don't really know where it SHOULD go - could be Game & Map Screenshots, or a project development thread, or early project feedback thread. So I'm going to leave it here and ask another mod to move it to where they believe it should go.

Thanks for your opinion Shaz, I think that you are right about the "expressionless" of the generated ones, but I also have in consideration the cost of creating or ask for materials.

Thanks for your opinion.

I like the 2nd type of a faces a lot better. The ones from the generator just stand out like a sore thumb to me. You can do a search for face generators to find different ones. I was looking for a good one to link, but couldn't find it.. but here's an example of one that looks like it might be good

In my opinion, the generator faces are outstandingly boring, generic, and characterless, which draws away from the game a great deal. If you can in any way avoid it, I'd advise you not to use them. The RTP edits look much better. While they're not as ideal as fully custom graphics, they're definitely better than anything the generator could ever dream of making.

Just an artist's opinion on the matter.

Don't take my word for it though, do as you like! If you think the generator are better, by all means use them. I think they stand out like a sore thumb, but hey, that might just be me ;P

I dont think that the generator faces are better, but the problem with custom faces are... the lack of other Ethnicitys such as African, Latino or Asian, I like to put a lot of variety of races on my games or written stories. but Japanese Artists only make white characters, I know that some characters are intended to be asian or even indian or chinese, but they all have the same features and skin colours. thats my only problem with using Custom Faces....

Oooh, well if that's the only problem, I can easily help you out! Editing skin colours is a peace of cake (for me at least) hehe. Send me the faces, and I'll have 'ehm done by tomorrow, free of charge! :)

Of course just remember to tell me which face needs to be which colour, haha.

(I can edit any colouring btw, hair, skin, eyes, whatever. Just say what's what, and I'll do it!)

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
