Hello! I hope I'm in the right place here, if not, sorry!

I was wondering if RPGM XP works in Windows 8 - I was thinking of buying the full version but I don't want to waste my time and money. I realize that it's an older version, but I used it a few times years ago and I always liked it best.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop, if that means anything. Should RPGM XP work on my laptop?

I have Windows 8 and XP works just fine on it. :)

You know you could always try the trial version and see if that works ;)

Yes, just download it and see if it works. If you haven't installed it on that machine before, you have 30 days to decide whether you want to buy it or not.

XP DOES work fine on Windows 8.

What you MAY have issues with is running it on a laptop. Go into the database and make sure all the windows fit properly. I'm not sure if this was an issue with XP, but I know it is with Ace - if your resolution is too small, there are one or two screens that will not fit.

I've moved this thread to Product Discussion and Support. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work! Use the free trial and see if that works.

If your laptop has a screen resolution that's over 1024x768 (most importantly, the height), you will not have any issue. Just run it and be happy!

FYI:

whenever you make a new project with XP under Win7&8 you have to change the save project location to "my documents" manually, as the default path goes to a folder that has restricted access in newer windows versions.

But that is only a minor quirk that doesn't prevent the program from running.

I'm going to buy the full version soon. I am unable to download the trial because Norton 360 keeps removing it immediately and saying that it is unsafe. But thanks for the answers. I will be sure to save projects to My Documents. And my laptop screen is pretty big so that won't be a problem :)

Then you should enter that download as an exception for Norton, because otherwise you won't be able to get the full version as well.

The full and the trial download are the same, purchasing just give you a serial to unlock the trial into the full version.

If you trust it enough (I do) you can turn Norton off some time, try it, and then reactivate Norton. The same happens sometimes to me with Avast, I sometimes just shut it off completely for days because it drives me nuts!!

Like the "aliens" guy would say, "Antivirus",

I've tried RPG Maker XP multiple times on my laptop (also Windows 8), and all it does after installing is lock up the entire computer (to the point where NOTHING responds, even music playing stops dead)... Good old Microsoft.
I have already tried disabling AVG, running in compatibility mode for Win XP Service Pack 2&3, and as admin.

Any ideas how what could be wrong?

I'd love to get back into RPGMXP again, it's my favorite.

Most likely one of your background programs that try to block XP - the poster above said that Norton (falsely) blocks the download, if you have an antivirus detecting a false positive this might be the result...

Try closing some programs at random. If anything happens you just restart your PC, there is no harm at closing threads :p .

Because as Andar says, it is very much the case of programs clashing one against the other.

Does VXA's Lite version (or any other you happen to have) works? Just to see if it's RMXP specific. It could be the case that your preferred version is the one that haves THAT specific problem, in that specific software/hardware ambient, in which case... well, **** happens.

Hope your problem gets solved either magically or any other way,

VXA Lite works perfect, oddly enough. Seems to be XP exclusively...
I don't quite like messing around with background programs willy-nilly. But I'll see what I can find out.

Any more suggestions are welcome.

XP works on mine, but I had to switch the compatibility mode and it takes it awhile to open

randomgbystander, this is not your thread, and your problem is unique to your computer as numerous people have already said it works for them. Please start your own thread for your own issue, rather than adding on to someone else's. Thank you.

Rpg Maker 2000 through VC Ace will all work on all Windows XP through Windows 8. I've personally used them on all different Operating Systems.

There are some cases where you might receive an error message upon opening the application, but there will always be a way to solve it. Take my word for it ;)

I think it's safe to say this question has been answered. If the OP has issues getting Windows 8 to work on THEIR computer, they can start a new thread and give more specific information on what happens when they try to install or run it.

Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
