Generally good, but there are issues.
HARDWARE PROS:
-I didn't really expect much more or much less than $300.
-I like how the Joy-Cons are also motion controllers, gives hope for Wii and Wii U virtual console titles.
HARDWARE CONS:
-Way too much unnecessary gimmicks on the Joy-Cons. Just take out everything except the motion controls and the price could've been dropped by at least $20. Cool gimmicks if they were at a technology museum, but not for gameplay.
-Paid online service. This shouldn't of been a thing to begin with, especially in an era where the development of data is zero.
SOFTWARE PROS:
-Zelda: Breath of the Wild looks as good as ever. It runs so much better on the Switch than the Wii U.
-Mario Odyssey looks great! I enjoyed 3D World, but it lacked the same soul 64/Sunshine/Galaxy did, this brought my faith back in creative Nintendo.
-Arms looks like it could be a hidden gem, it looks like a third party Wii game with a lot more polish, but I'm worried about the quantity of the content.
-Octopath Traveler is the JRPG takeback I needed. I loved the 2.5D style with pixel art in 3D spaces, but I thought they died after the DS. Pretty cool square brought the style back for a console release.
-New Bomberman looks a bit rueshed, but overall good.
-I was planning to get a PS4, but after seeing Dragon Quest Heroes 1&2, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, and Sonic Mania coming to the Switch... nevermind then.
-Looking forward to seeing more about Fire Emblem Warriors on the 18th.
SOFTWARE CONS:
-Mario Kart 8 Deluxe looks great, don't get me wrong, but I'm worried it won't bring enough content to warrant another purchase as someone who owned the game on the Wii U and bought all the DLC. I'll still get it because I loved Bomb-Omb blast back in the Gamecube days... good times.
-Splatoon 2 also looks great. I could argue it just looks like it could have been a massive update to the first game but that doesn't bother me. What does, however, is the paid online service coming with the Switch. There's so much new stuff that I don't want to miss out on, but will it be worth buying online services just for this one game? Splatoon 1 is one of the few games that I played on the Wii U online after all.
-Not too excited about Xenoblade 2, but I wasn't a fan of the series to begin with.
-Skyrim... not special edition? Makes me worried about the systems specs if they won't bring even that much. Don't get me wrong, I see a bright future with Nintendo and Bethesda and this game is the symbol of that (hopefully games like Fallout 3/4 comes by later), but there isn't too much redeemable about this version other than it's portable. I know that should be enough for some people, but what about Mod support or DLC?
-1 2 Switch is just a tech demo for most of the pointless features installed into the joy-con. At the very least it should come with the console, not as a separate game.
I'll likely get this console on day one just for Breath of the Wild alone, but it's going to be a slow year. It looks like there are a number of quality titles coming in 2017 for the Switch but they seemed to be coming at 1 title a month at best. At the very least, there should be more than enough games to satisfy those waiting until the holidays for the Switch.
