First off let me tell you a few things about me personally. I love Linux Mint. I like Windows 7. I hated Windows 8 (8.1 were better of course) but still didn't liked them much. This is a matter of personal taste of course. It also is a matter of the device Windows 8 were running. Used them mostly on laptops with a mouse or a touch pad, it made me feel bad really. Again I make sure you understand that it was a matter of personal taste. So I was still running Windows 7. Yeah, WAS, until about two hours ago.
I just upgraded to Windows 10. First things first. The upgrade had an error for me. I managed to google the error code and get the solution (empty a certain folder and retry downloading) so despite that minor problem, the upgrade started and I went to sleep. Woke up with a screen that I understood that I am ready to go with the configuration. I did nothing. It took EVERYTHING from W7 integrating them into the new W10. Wow! Just WOW! I dislike things Ms did to the past and all the fails and stuff, but I HAVE to give a huge Conratulations to all of them. That was awesome.

So what I saw in the last 4 days I run on it? Here is a list:

  • Task Manager is dramatically enhanced in a VERY good way.
  • Windows explorer is more solid and also more elegant at the same time.
  • The kernel seems to be a fantastic effort.
  • You can use your computer the way you were used to and you like, either if you like W8 either if you insist W7 were better.
  • You don't have to restart anything to make a software take effect.
  • Back compatibility with all programs already installed. NOTHING bad happened.
  • Store access to fantastic free applications
  • Windows Key+Shift+Left (or Right) — move a window to your next monitor..
  • I really don't like telemetry and all logging Microsoft does
  • I really had a few issues while using my PC but nothing is broken.
  • Steam works fine for me.
  • RPG Maker VX Ace works fine for me too.
  • RPG Maker XP works fine.
Topic Updates:

Disable P2P feature (peer to peer) so your PC will not be like a torrent node for the W10 download proccess. You can thank @Shaz for mentioning this.

@Archeia reported keyoboard issues with RPG Maker 2003. @Shin Kitsune confirms that and informs us about the same issue on RPG Maker 2000.

Changed the title from:

[Windows 10 and RPG Maker] Sharing our experience on this upgrade.

To:

[Windows 10 and RPG Maker] Sharing our experience on this upgrade, along with troubleshooting.

============================
Troubleshooting:

Updates:
Just had a random crash. It looked like a hard reset and left me staring the BIOS screen
(that stuck too I had to press reset) so I hope they should fix such Issues.
Most possible reason could be a graphics card driver issue, but nobody knows.

So what is your first impression?
What do you like most on the new W10?
Did you had any problems during installation?

Glad you didn't have problems so far with Ace in Windows 10. I might not be able to get it yet as I don't think I have enough time for the download. Maybe in a few weeks or so I'll be able to get it. For now I'll be tuning into here in case there are other experiences

Have you tried running any XP game on it?  That's important to me, as I have a lot of them and do sometimes mess around in the XP editor.  Obviously not a deal-breaker, but nevertheless, I'd like to know in advance.

Steam client works fine.

RPG Maker XP works fine.

Downloaded "finding Eden" , a game made on XP, and works fine under Windows 10.

Updating OP too.

If you want me to test any more fancy XP game jsut to be sure, I will do so, just tell me the title and where to download it. :p

One word: FRESH! A vast improvement from 8.1

Had some issues installing Windows 10 via Windows Update, but after downloading the media creation tool I finally managed to upgrade!

I noticed that some RM2000/2003 games may have font issues. Tested with Wadanohara and the Deep Blue Sea,and the game utilised Raster fonts...

Thanks for the offer.  I was going to link a game from the forum Store, but they all seem to have vanished.

Could you try this one?  Clicking 'download' gives you the free demo.  I reckon if it will play this, it will play any XP game.  I'm going to assume that if W10 can handle XP and Ace editor, it can handle VX (yeah, I have all 3).

Dreamscape Aldorela Trial worka all right on Windows 10.

Full screen works fine.

Windowed we have the mouse pointer of Windows alogn with the mouse system pointer.

If that is normal then I got nothing else to report.

The game starts, menus work all right, scrolling is ok. Yeah it works fine I suppose.

After IGMC (As in when I get time) I will install Windows 10 on my 8.1 laptop, glad it seems good.

I will stick with Windows 7 on my desktop for now, unless I really like what I see.

f clip-studiO paint ex

I suppose. Okay another beta test but that's it, or we get off topic.

The 7zip file of the trial had a problem to extract itself. Note that this might be a little random.

Anyway not sure if this software works on W10, best practice is ask the developer of each piece of software though.

Depends on your computer, really, but my friend had it install in around 15 minutes, and mine was probably around there as well, though I didn't count it out.

I'm very hesitant to jump on this new Windows Bandwagon.

Maybe it's the tinfoil hat, or all the laws and executive orders being signed lately...

I KNOW there are already back doors inside pretty much every version of Windows. At least on Windows 7, I know most of them and can keep my PC fairly secure.

Every time I think of Windows 10, I see the cover of 1984 by Orwell.

Funny, every time I see the Fakebook 'F', I get the same vision.

Coincidence? Maybe not...

~Edit~ Didn't mean to go off-topic. I'm glad RPG maker is working on Windows 10 for everyone. I guess I just look at it like... If it's not broken, don't fix it.

I understand your thoughts 100% and you got a strong and right point there.

You got Windows? You got potential backdoors. Right? Is that you are saying here? Well you are right in my opinion.

Here is a question that you can not answer though.

"Does your Operating System (OS) have any Zero Day Exploits(ZDEs)?"

It doesn't matter which your OS is.

It doesn't matter.

You can't answer that.

You can't know that, cause ZDEs are just that. An exploit not yet discovered, used by someone else to exploit the security of a system s/he does not own the right to access.

Here comes the second question (hardcore) :p

"Is my system (a home PC for instance or a home network) vulnerable?"

Well, I don't wanna make you more paranoid than all of us, but even using anti virus, anti rootkit, firewall and monitoring priviledges like a boss, you are still potentially vulnerable.

Heartbleed exploit was a very nice example of this. Google it.

So let's take a look:

Which OS is more likely to have a ZDE then?

Well the more complex an OS is, the better the chance to have one really.

Modern OSes are all complex though. :)

It is the same principle with glitches and bugs, the difference is that the "glitch" is intentional made by someone, exploiting a weakness.

Same goes on everything.

So the fact is that security is a state of mind really.

OSX is  vulnerable on any of its ZDEs and so Windows have some ZDEs and there ARE some viruses for unix based OSs

Linux can be vulnerable too. Harder, but it depends on many factors. I am a Linux fan, but when it comes to security, I admit that I raise my hands up saying:

"The more you learn about security, the more you understand that it's a delusion".

Every time I think of Facebook, Windows, cameras, war, police violence for no reason, politics and corruption, secret agancies, financial war, banks, money, why should you limit your thoughts on such a small part of such a huge picture? Ok it is "another brick in the wall" as my favorite band says, but seriously it's not so much of a big deal.

Because privacy is a state of mind, as much as security is. Think of it. If there is a secret agency, that has access to such a level of technology that can have backdoors on an OS, what does that mean for all of us? If a secret agency can create cyber weapons that have certain targets (meaning that they already know how to detect the id of a CERTAIN computer and hit only THAT) means that these people, can do anything to anyone and nobody will really learn about it. Your "security" from them is that you are not too important for them.

For your reference:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuxnet

How about Social Engineering? This is the real material of study of a real hacker.

Even Linux users use Facebook, and Linux users got a javascript virus spread through Facebook as a video share on chat saying "OMG LOOK LOL!" or something. And almost everyone clicked it. Well that can be considered a cross platform malware. And there is NO anti virus versus human gullibility really.

Thus let's not start a conversation on privacy, 1984 and such stuff. I really am with you here @Saintlnix. What this thread is all about though, is:

  • What is your first impression?
  • What do you like most on the new W10?
  • Did you had any problems during installation?
It went off topic, but half responsibility comes to this very reply, so we are both guilty ( :p ) but it was a good parenthesis in my opinion, so no more people will hop into such parentheses in the future. I like your thoughts.

" I guess I just look at it like... If it's not broken, don't fix it. "

Absolutely. If it works for you, it's ok. And you know that your game can run on W10 hooray hooray!

I will add the following on the OP:

This thread really focus on compatibility with RPG Maker.

Since I do not own 2000 or 2003 I got no feedback to give.

If someone using W10 has any insight on this, I would gladly like to hear about it.

Anyone who is online and still believes/cares/worries about privacy needs a serious reality check.

I'm downloading the upgrade for my laptop at this moment. I hope it goes peachy. For the moment, though, I have ZERO intention of upgrading the gaming rig.

Just adding the 'mimic' to the demonpot, it moves and boops like mad. Love it, also why does the rtp in MZ not have a pot character? It's like a perfect trap.
