I recently installed Windows 10 on my PC and am just wondering if Ace is compatible with it. I have tried everything to get it to work; reinstalling the RTP, using the 'run programs for older versions of windows option', reinstalling Ace, trying different builds, and running as administrator. I really hope I'm just missing something, because for some reason it won't let me downgrade back to Windows 8.1.

Thanks in advance.

Well, what happens when you try to run it? Errors? Crashes? Or does it simply not open? :)

Are you running Windows o a diffrent PC or a separate partition? You should be able to boot to Windows 8.1.

If not, then if you had it preinstalled by an OEM (eg. Lenovo) you might be able to either restore the factory image or download an iso file for Windows 8.1, boot it up and it will take the serial number automatically.

You are aware that pre-release OS can break compatibility, don't you? Can't help much.

He means he installed over 8.1 with 10 and cannot rollback, I think. If that's true OP,  you cannot rollback without some form of recovery image like a DVD, usb stick or backup.  It was in the details for installing Windows 10. But yea, you are correct AceofAces. If OP has HP etc etc then there should be a partition that has the "factory restore" options still in it.

Whenever I try to open it the loading wheel spins but nothing happens. If I open Task Manager it says it is running but there is no window. I cannot downgrade back to 8.1 as unfortunately it was pre-installed and didn't come with a product key, and it doesn't take it automatically when I have tried to. And Windows Rollback won't work.

If it was preinstalled by HP, Lenovo, etc., then look at the instruction manual. They have a way to access the recovery partition.

For example, on Lenovo laptops, shut down the laptop, press the novo key, select System Recovery and follow the instructions.

EDIT: If your pc was built by a boutique store, then you need to contact them.

Thanks everyone, but I resolved the problem now. I created this post on my phone while Windows did some updates, and they must've done the trick as it now works. Thanks for the support.

Oh, ok. I guess a compatibility update or (another update that fixes stuff) was installed. Good to hear.

Oh and pro tip: Don't do anything that can mess up the pc unless you know what are you doing and have the proper tools (and backing up your files, you never know).

@AceOfAces_Mod I will take more caution in future, although I did back up all my files, as Microsoft recommends.

@tearsofthenight Yes, as long as you have the newest update.

Both XP and ACE (Steam versions) work for me on Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview.

Do note the prelease nature of the OS.

*hugs*

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
