Anyone else hate it? I recently had my car (a 2014 Honda Civic with about 11,000 miles) refuse to start because of it being so cold overnight that it froze the battery completely. Had to have the car jump started and warm up the battery and recharge it. If it gets that cold again I'm going to take the battery out of my car and keep it in the house overnight then put it back in when I need to use the car.

I've lived in Winnipeg since the day I was born and I'll never get used to our winters.

I can try to like winter by staying inside. It's nice and cozy to stay inside when you know outside can literally kill you.

As someone who has lived without snow almost her entire life, I can safely say now that I am temporary living around it and am growing tired of it.

Snow was neat at first. Emphasis at first. But you have to shovel it, people have to drive around or on it and the sky is just white and the ground is white and it is white everywhere.

No, I don't want to build a snowman.

I feel I didn't whine enough with my first post. Winnipeg was colder than the surface of Mars last week.

I like proper winters, which for me means snow and a temperature between -5 to -15 degrees Celsius (ca. 5-23 degrees Fahrenheit). Unfortunately those have become rare, and for instance, this winter we have had barely any snow and instead rain and a temperature ranging from 10 to -5 degrees (23-50F).

One reason why I like snow is that it makes the scenery look brighter. Having six hours of daylight (or even less) can get pretty depressing, and when the days are rainy and grey on top of that, it's no wonder why my mood turns bleak. According to an article I saw recently, my home town got 6 hours of sunlight during last December.

I feel for people in places that actually get a cold winter (after all I've lived places that do) but right now I live somewhere that winter means 15-20f at it's absolute coldest, and so winter just makes me laugh. The night before last it rained during the early morning when the temperature was 25-30f and the bloody schools in my area delayed classes for three hours due to "dangerous weather conditions" because ice is foreign enough to us that a large swath of people literally do not know how to deal with a little bit of it and will cause accidents even when it's not cold long enough for black ice to even form on the roads. Worse, the courthouses all closed without warning and so when I drove an hour away to pay a fine I owed I had to drive back, in the "dangerous conditions" I might add, to try another day.

Winter can suck other places, I've been places that have driven me inside because of it...but where I live it's just a season where I'm constantly shaking my head at the toddleresque behavior of the civil authorities mixed with the media's incurable appetite for drama. The last time it snowed here and stayed cold long enough that the snow stayed on the ground for more than a day (it was three days as I recall before it melted completely) they dubbed it "snowmageddon" and wouldn't shut up about how horrible it was for two weeks leading up to it and one week after it had passed. Around here the worst part of winter is always the way people sensationalize it, tornadoes might kill us left and right each spring, but winter is just a harmless old man so stereotyped as evil that no one wants to talk to him, even though he's got candy in is pocket and is always friendly to those who do.

@Shaz Is winter sensationalized similarly in Australia, or are ice and snow such foreign concepts as to almost feel like fantastical constructs (as a natural phenomenon) entirely outside of the highest elevations? Just curious since it's even hotter there. (I really feel for you for that by the way, every summer I start contemplating moving from where I am as it is because of the heat, can't imagine living somewhere hotter voluntarily.)

I live in SoCal so it doesn't really snow or get super cold in the winter, and where I'm currently living we just get some nice rain (which is great for popping a window slightly open and working to the white noise!). It's really soothing and nice. The only bad thing is that we were getting high 90s/border 100 degree weather right up until late November - which is much less nice, especially when my apartment doesn't have a/c.

I did live in Colorado for a year or so and though the snow was pretty at first, I didn't really like it all that much. @evmaster you completely summarized how I feel about snow. Stay strong through the winter!

@Philosophus Vagus we have snow in Australia, just not where I live. Closest it gets is about 2 hours away from me. I like winter just as much as I like summer (not a bit!) but where I am it doesn't get anywhere near as cold - we rarely hit 0C.

@Shaz Since all 15 hottest places were in Australia would I be right in guessing Australia to be the hottest place in the world on average?

@robhr I saw that article where Winnipeg was supposedly colder than mars and the north pole. The temperature was marked as -30C and that represents to me that journalists don't research before they post articles. mars is further away from the sun than any place on earth so it's not scientifically possible for Winnipeg to be colder that mars. Also it's regularly below -30C here in Canada, sometimes reaching -40 plus windchill which goes below -50C.

I'm sure if that mars thing is even 1% true than it's some kind of trickery like saying the dirt is -30C. Nobody measures the cold of the ground though. The wind is suppose to be measured and i'm sure it's something like -80C down there or below. Probably some scheme to make it sound like mars is habitable when it's not.

Aside from that I know how you feel. Canada is pretty cold. Not enjoyable in the least.

I know, yeah. Also what part of the surface of Mars? Certainly not the poles. It's all quite arbitrary.

But yeah Winnipeg can get to around -50C with wind chill. I believe our record was -70C with wind chill.

Bethesda lied. They made up some nonsense that Nords came from skyrim. No.
The Nords came from Canada! Blasted weather... At least we get that 30% resistance to cold though. It does help.
Also our winter coats and massive boots are like army gear to war against the snow.

We like the cold at my house. Gripers in the D.C. area should move to Florida, as far as I am concerned. =] I wish we had weather more like Maine, but you can't have everything.

Anyways, this winter is even better now that @Celianna 's winter tiles are on sale!

@FleshToDust now -75 might be a bit intense for our woodstove...

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
