Heya!

So, I'm super new to RPG Maker(VX Ace, to be specific). Me and my friend have created a plan on making a game for this big project in school, you see. And we want to make it with quality! So, I'm planning on replacing the tileset with a new, simpler one I'm designing to make it fit more the atmosphere of what we plan. But I'm TOTALLY lost.

The thing I can't understand and that I've seen 0 posts about this is: how do I make "corner" tiles work? For instance, the wall tiles(the ones that go on top, not below). They have the 4 corners shaded properly, right? But when I use them, these corners adapt to whether they have adjacent tiles of the same kind or not. Even though they are just 1 tile on their own. How is that possible? How can I make one of those?

Also, how the hell do Autotiles work? I know, essentially, what they are, but I simply cannot understand how, when you put up those stuff together, the tiles becomes automation their own.

One last thing: how do I set up animated tiles? This is basically the major question here: I can only update a single png sheet per tileset, how can it have different stuff like animation?

I don't think I essentially understand the tiling system in this program at all.

Unfortunately, I'm not really sure what exactly you're asking. Do you think you can clarify?

I'll take the example of several tiles on the "A" set, in general(I think). There are tiles that are just a single thing, like the top of pillars or walls, or counters too. Even so, if I use one right by the other, they will "connect" and, instead of showing themsepves like the preview icon of the list, their corners will adapt to how they are attached to one another. Does it make sense?

I don't really explain things well in words, but I made a diagram that I hope is helpful. If you consider those "micro tiles" in this way, it might help. 4 tiles together will make up each 32x32 tile.

autotilediagram.png

  • blue for top-left corner
  • pink for top (this one will tile horizontally)
  • green for top-right corner
  • yellow for left (this one will tile vertically)
  • grey for centre (this one will tile horizontally and vertically)
  • red for right (this one will tile vertically)
  • magenta for bottom-left corner
  • orange for bottom (this one will tile horizontally)
  • cyan for bottom-right corner

Ooooh, now that I reread the tutorial, I understand. The autotiles have a display icon, and that was what confused me. Thanks a lot, you were really helpful!

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
