INTRODUCTION


I just wanted to let you know that I realize this is not your average RPGMaker game. Also, that there is no typical storyline/battle/storyline deal with it. I actually thought hard about not posting it here. But this site has a grand following and it was indeed created with RMVX. So I figured what the heck. We hope that though it doesn't fit into the normal style, that you will at least take the time to comment, visit our site, watch our trailer, etc. We're just learning the ropes to marketing and such, so we could use all the feedback we can get. Thanks!



ABOUT
World Circuit Boxing is a boxing simulator in which you have complete control over the 'league'. No more dodging contenders or disappointing pay-per-view specials. WCB is a game based on records, stats and creation. Take over a gym by yourself or with your little brother. Let Dad and Mom create a gym, too! Then recruit fighters from all over the world and manage their careers with custom training techniques and magical powerups! Wager on title fights and keep a close eye on the rankings, as your boxers journey toward world records and the hall of fame.


STORY

In World Circuit Boxing, the story is the circuit itself! Though not an RPG, you can play as many roles as you want, from gym owner, to recruiter, to circuit commisioner. The game allows you to control as much or as little as you want. You can schedule fights, create new gyms, new prospects, and even fight styles. As gym owner, you can earn points by fighter performance and by wagering on championship fights. There are 110 nations, 8 regional titles and one world title. Every fighter's career is stored, even after retirement. There's even a hall of fame. The game is great for multi-player 'hot-seat' play, where you can battle other gyms for the top spot on the gym rankings. You can even 'juice' your fighters by using RPG-like 'powerups' prior to the fight to enhance their abilities in and out of the ring. Upgrade your gym for better training, recruit scouting reach and medical facilities to assure your fighters are on the fast lane to success!

So I had been programming this game for over a year or so. I used RPGMakerVX because of the ease at which windows are displayed through coding and because of the way the scenes are created. I have a good understanding of these things in RGSS2, much moreso than I understand creating apps from the base Ruby language. So basically, RPGMakerVX was used as a shortcut or wrapper for the code I was writing and for producing the EXE file. I used ModernAlgebra's screenshot script for VX to take the screenshots. Anyway, me, my wife and my sons have started this small development company and have been hard at work producing games. This just happens to be the first one we finished. The game is fully 'moddable'. You are able to replace graphics, names and windows if you wish. I'll be putting up a walkthrough on how to do that soon. There is a tutorial video on the site and an in-game help scene (which is incomplete in this version, however). The next version should be out some time next week, however. I'll be sure to update this post when it goes live. Thanks for any support you can give us, and let us know if you have any issues. Feel free to use the contact page if you need help.

Wow!  It's been a while since I've updated this.  In fact, a whole new RpgMaker has come out during my absence!  :) WCB has been updated to version 1.3.9!  It will also be available for purchase at 50% off on January 30 through February 13, EST, in what we're calling the 'Blizzard of '16 Sale'.  Anyway, just follow the link to the website for details and the purchase link.

World Circuit Boxing has found its way to Steam Greenlight!

The current version is 1.4.4 which was released over the summer.  This build introduces the equipment tone system and the jams system.  The equipment tone system allows the fighter to have preference for all their equipment.  This means that you can purchase a pair of orange gloves and adjust the tone until its purple.  The jams system introduces fighter theme songs that will be played as they are introduced in the fight scene. 

To celebrate the Holidays (and our additon to the Steam Community) we will start the 'Holiday Ringside Sale' tomorrow, where you can purchase the game from our site for half-price.


I also want to invite you personally, (because I've been a fan and user of all the RPGMaker series for years) to check out what we're in the process of making.  We've added a 'In the Works' section where you can view all the upcoming J3I Games, including the epic-RPG made with VX, 'Netherquest', which is free to download.

World Circuit Boxing went live on Steam last night! It has been a long road! Lots of hours in development, playtesting, and researching how best to market the game. Through all this time, getting it on Steam was our main focus. We believe in our game and we believe that once it's played, players will see for themselves, that what the game lacks in graphics, it more than makes up for depth and fun!

So go to Steam, get a copy, and head over the gym. It's fight night. And you're in charge!

Well, I thought about that Tuomo. And actually, the names are in an editor file that the player can modify how he/she wants, so the default game will not run with those names. I looked at games like Title Bout Championship Boxing', which is a simulator too. It uses over 6000 all-weight-class boxer names. I've heard it both ways...that you can and you cannot. But again, it's not part of the default game. You may be right though. I guess I should probably alter the game's Store page to only use generated fighters just to be safe.

I took them out of the screenshots and off the store page. I'll have to make a new trailer now, but that's okay.

When I thought about it, I figured that the game shouldn't be 'marketed' using their names, even if the TBCB has gotten away with it for all these years.

Thanks for bringing this up, Tuomo. You may have saved me a hit to the ole coin purse.

World Circuit Boxing has been updated to Version 1.5.5! This latest build fixes some minor bugs, adds a few little features, and delivers the first installment of WCB with our long-thought-out system, the Gym Manager.

The Gym Manager
This system allows you to designate the CPU to run your created gyms, and gives the player the power to choose a focus for each CPU-managed gym. This will stiffen the competitiveness of WCB by adding automatic challengers for recruiting the best prospects and equipping fighters chasing the titles. Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
