Not sure how I feel about a market place in a game like this, but it's probably needed for the completionists that aren't willing to travel all over the world. But we don't know the specifics of the system yet, they might just randomise it enough to allow you to capture almost everything in your area if you wait long enough (excluding legendary/mythical Pokémon).

Well, it doesn't even have to be for completionists. If I live in Arizona, and my absolute favorite pokemon is Cubchoo, and that's really all I want, I'd be able to trade a Cacnea for it. And unable to travel isn't the same as unwilling.

I'm also curious about the starter situation.

Oh if you don't live in any ragion, you can start with a pikachu for $9.99.

Being serious, probably your starter will be a pikachu, always, forever.

Spin offs tend to do this, they give you a pikachu first, specially if the engine is from a non nintendo company (ambrella likes to give you a pikachu in the rumble series).

This could quite possibly be the best game ever that comes to mobile I always said I'd never get an I-Phone but I think this may have just persuaded me. After all it is Pokemon

I think Pikachu never was claimed to be a best Pokemon choice for Ash Ketchum (Ash Ketchup, hehe.) In terms of his usefulness progress his career I mean.


However he is a mascot, so he appears basically almost everywhere despite being statistically far from best. Wouldn't be surprised if he was commonly seen due popularity reason alone. Like many other pokemons that appeared in the "original series" regularly.
