I've had two hard drives leak and die on me, so I got a SSD to save me from that stress. The worst loss was the first one, since I was able to idenify the second really early. I lost three large video projects I was working on, two ~5000 image folders of photos, graphics, and edits, my original project and some comissioned work for it that was not kept by the creator, and several paid programs that I was unable to recover the Serials for.

Never again, computer gods! Please!

Just be warned - depending on how you use that SSD, it's life cycle can be shorter or longer than a HDD life cycle. Nothing keeps data forever.

Don't worry, I follow the "a backup is only a backup if you have four of them rule".

Ahhh...data loss.

I've been reckless in keeping my data safe. That is, up until a few years back. While in the process of transferring data to a new computer, there was one folder (my most important folder, to be precise) that somehow got left out of the transfer to an external hardive. Long story short, I lost over six years of musical motifs, finished projects, and works in progress. It was a sad day, indeed, but it certainly taught me the important lesson of double/triple/quadruple checking backups and data transfers.

But even now, I never feel safe. =P

Windows 10 decided to wipe out Windows.old folders. I lost Restaff stuff since 2013.

I used file recovery utility but it was too late.

Thankfully I have backups of my projects and stories.

Edit: Plus member plus stuff. >_>

My worst was losing some story drafts at 13 due to a virus. Though the drafts were somewhat generic princesses and stepsisters' rivalries.

Now I back up my files (saved games, notes, pictures, etc.) both in a cloud drive and in a physical drive.

Someone hacked my website once. Turned out it wasn't even my site they hacked, I was on shared hosting, they got through by another user's site. Wiped everything, then I found out my backups hadn't actually been downloading properly. I lost not only all of my work and website, but important things I was hosting for a lot of other people, who weren't very happy with me.

The only thing I saved was my MMORPG which lost about a month of updates.

Back in 2004 when I uh made an unofficial version of RPG Maker 2003, there was a lot of hacks and basically Legacy of Goku II was the default battle system and I even had a simple turnkey solution for mode7.  But, just as I'm about to show it off, my hard drive dies.. I moved on to game maker when I built my next PC later on.

I probably had 5000+ hours into that hack so... I wasn't doing it again, dunno if git was a thing back then and if it was I didn't know about it as that woulda saved that project.  But now we have MV... it's good enough.

I'm very careful with my harddrives, but my worst file loss was when I had put on prolly 40 hours of work on an art piece, that I saved over, and closed the file. It brought me back to square one. I didnt want to draw for a while.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
