I remember when one of the first nonclassical RPG I ever played was the Mario Golf series. Would it make any technological sense to make a golf RPG on RPG Maker? I would be highly curious if people wanted to work on it or think it was even possible. I have had the want to make my own golf RPG ever sense my first Mario Golf on the GameBoy Color.

(If this is in the wrong section, please move it)

Are you concerned with the mechanical aspect of the actual golf simulation experience? Or more about the 'interest' in the actual golf life style role playing experience??
Like your home slice T. Woods is inviting you to drink chocolate milks at the Ritz with him and his buddies from some upscale part of Nowheresville, TN , and the objective is to find out more about the hidden power of the Moonlight Putter by having a high enough Charisma score to talk it up with the golfer elites?

So you have to level up by schmoozing through the different leagues, while keeping your sportsmanship high, or you will never reveal the mystery of the Golf Clubs of Power?

Knowing RPG Maker and Javascript in some sense I bet you can make a golf RPG if you want. On the other hand, if you want people to like a golf RPG you should make it in such a way that it does not feel repetitive after 10 minutes in the game. Also, if the game is fully based on golfing I think your audience will be much smaller than broader games.

@Sauteed_Onion Primarily the first one.

@JustinK This may require a new plugin or few to get done (I can't code- the only amount of JS I know is what was required to run some the features of Moghnter's or SumRndmDde's ones). Yeah, I know the interest pool of players is small, but a golf RPG would something you don't see every day.

This really belongs in 'Ideas and Prototypes'.
As that is a moderated section, and this thread does not comply with Rules and Guidelines for posting, I am not able to move it.

@JtheDuelist On further consideration, if this is asking whether RPGMaker is a suitable engine, rather than a project specific query, it can be re-opened. However, it still doesn't belong in Game Mechanics Design. I think that 'General Discussion' is a broad enough home to take it. Please note, however, that if the question devolves into "what plugins would I need" then it really requires a new thread in JS Plugin Requests as that is implementation, rather than a discussion of the broad concept.

Can one make a Golf RPG on RPG Maker?

Yes, In fact you could probably make most of the technical aspects through basic eventing via variable controls & RNG mechanics. & could use eventing to create a turn based progression system, for AI characters to compete against. Switches to move the camera between the player & the AI characters. A targeting reticle event to determine where the player is "aiming" with their swing. Skill & club based variable formula manipulation, coupled with a secondary chaos RNG layer manipulation, & a tertiary weather & terrain effect variable modification for distance per swing.

You'll need to set up a rather extensive set of conditional branches to determine your AI player's actions as well.

However, such a system is going to be highly cumbersome, & the level of eventing required is going to be fairly extensive. I don't know how tight your scripting skills are, but I am not aware of any plugins that might readily serve to streamline the mechanics.

I am honestly not certain RPG Maker is the best engine for this, on the other hand I am not certain which engines might readily have greater efficacy in making the same game.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
