-VILLE

Hello! I am Magixe, and I am currently working on a game titled X-Ville. The concept is this: You have died, but Death has decided to give you a second chance at life. If you can prove that you still want your life, Death will return your memories. You memories cost 1000 LP - LP are rewards for quests, getting married, pets, working, having fun, etc. Depending on what you choose to do and who you befriend, your "memories" will be different at the end of the game. In one ending (NO SPOILER) there is more gameplay after "finishing" it.

Anyway, what do you think of this concept? Any suggestions? Would you play this game?

Nyehfully yours,

I could have a haunted house with that. The universe of the game is quite large, so the player can a) replay the game many times and b) have a lot of different paths.

I'll add that if you'd like  :p

This concept has a lot of potential, but like Fable, it has a good chance of not living up to the hype. I'd really like to see this implemented, multi-path games are some of my favorites. I wish you good luck.

I like the idea, but I think you are going have to do a lot to tie everything together

.

The premise of your story is that Death is willing to restore your memory and return you back to life. Since regaining your memories is the goal of your game, that implies that the memory of your past life were quite valuable or significant. So right off the bat you set up the player to believe that their character had an epic lifestyle in the past, if they were just an ordinary farmer in their past life then why would death go through all that trouble to keep your memory yet give you a new chance at life? Bottom line is,  a lot of your players may be disappointed with your ending if the regained memory does not live up to their expectation.

Here are some things you might want to consider.

You say that the player can get married in game, but what if the player was married in their past memory/life? What do they do then, now that they have conflicting desires? Why aren't the people from your past life looking for you, or do they also not remember you? If you are in an alternate world where no one from your past life exists, then what is the point of remembering in the first place? Was it only you that lost your memory, or did everyone involved with you also lose their memories as well? And if that is the case, then what is the point of remembering if no one else remembers? It's not like you can reestablish those lost connections, or can you? Or should you? All that might lead to is internal conflict and cognitive inconsistencies with that the protagonist believes now and what they believed in their past life. What would be the point of remembering a life that is no longer relevant?

How will you handle the end? You beat the game, and you get your memories back... then what? Do you abandon your current life to pursue your past life? Do you throw away today's happiness for yesterday's sadness? Or do you just completely ignore your past memories, and move on... which begs the question, what was the point of chasing after your past memories if all you were going to do is abandon them in the end?

You don't have to answer any of these questions but please keep them in the back of your mind if you pursue this plot because these are some of the first things that popped into my mind, and other people will probably be thinking the same thing when they play your game. All in all, it's a good idea I think, just make sure to connect all the dots. Remember that people like to get a feeling of completion, or solace at the end of a journey so be sure to tie everything together!

I genuinely like the default MZ actor sprites, and the character creator. I think I will draw new headshots for them, but part of me doesn't want to replace the default sprites. But should I? I want to eventually release my game.
Someday, I hope they make a game where 95% of the animation budget went to turning valves and opening door animations, leaving every other animation looking like a CDI zelda cutscene.
