That topic title was a mouthful... ._. but I think it describes what I have in mind pretty accurately.  I have made - and am still more than willing to make - songs of various genres, either full versions or loopable versions.  Basically whatever you think will fit your project, be it contemporary electronica, something more acoustic, ambient tracks, more 16-bit era sounding themes or what have you.  Expanding your limits is immense fun and I'd love to do so while helping out with the community projects here.

Optional condensed introduction within the spoiler tags because it's my 1st post and I shouldn't be a stranger!

I'm going to kill two birds with one stone here since this is also my first post to the forums - hello there! I hope to have an enjoyable time here! :D   I'm Xirahii, but if you want to get personal you can call me Cory.  I live in Texas (no cowboy hat or country accent, sorry :c).  My friend and I have been working on our own personal project in VX Ace (in which I'm doing the music and most of the storytelling and him doing everything else I absolutely suck at) and through Google searches and helpful posts on these forums I've overcome deceptively simple issues and now steady progress is always being made.  It feels good to be involved again in some kind of game development.
I've been producing music since 2008.  I have previously made music for independent games using the Ren'Py visual novel engine and also had a little workshop there. The first (and... last) project I was fully dedicated to was an unnamed Visual Novel that has since then unfortunately been abandoned.  As such, the songs I had composed for that game have been included in the below examples for your use.  While I've in the recent years been making a whole buncha electronical/dance music, I've also produced an album's and several single's worth of ambient/atmospheric pieces, so if I had to choose a genre in which I feel most "comfortable" it is those.

Unfortunately, tracks that I've made explicitly for the purpose of games are limited, but I'd graciously accept the opportunity to build my repetorierteafdagds1 portfolio. The below examples consist of some of those ambient tracks, the songs made for the abandoned VN project (these in particular are old), a couple of my own independent projects I thought could probably fit a game in the vein of RPGMaker, and finally, one or two short tracks to get you better acquainted with my composition style.

Unless otherwise stated, all the songs below are loops.

1I have been informed that the word is actually "repertoir." ... *flips tables and walks out.*

  • All requests in this thread, of course, are free.  The only thing I ask in any project is credit

  • If you really, really, really want to offer something, I'd love to do a trade for sprite art or portraits.

  • Completed songs will be made public, but only the person who requested that song will be able to download it.

  • I'm in college and also dealing with a bunch of mischevious life-goblins on the side.  Please be patient! I limit myself to 3 slots because that is what I've found my personal limits are and that's with me making the OST to me and my friend's personal project.  I place quality over quantity.

  • Orchestral arrangements will take time if you want something that sounds a little more realistic.  While there are a couple examples up there with orchestral elements that give you an idea of what I can do, it's not too much my forte.  I could simply take one or two string ensembles and arrange the song from there, but doing that will make the song sound more classic/16-bit.  Ultimately, I prefer to use individual parts (cello, viola/violins, etc). But it's entirely up to you and how you want the style to be!

  • I included an acoustic vocal sample because, if you'd like, it is possible for me to arrange a vocal track for you alongside one of my friends and awesome partners in music, Oceanically. The way she writes lyrics is mystical and indirect. This will, however, also take time (she has her own life, she has others who ask for her vocals, and she's working here and there on her own albums).

Hey Xirahiis I have a request for you  :D  The theme I'm going for is unnerving, the track should start off relaxing and calm and slowly become unnerving as if there's something dark hiding underneath the song before becoming an inverted evil version of the song.

The event involves a character reuniting with some lost friends but something seems off about the whole situation, as if something dark is lurking just out of sight.

Since the song is meant to gradually change and then become something different I feel that somewhere around 3-5 minutes is good (Going a little in-depth here...the first part (1 min) or so could be the normal calm relaxing part while the second part (2-3 minutes) would start to change it slowly becoming more demonic and the remaining time would be the inverted evil part, this should be the longest part of the track.)

I would like the song to loop but only loop the last part of it (the inverted evil part)

I would like it if you can make it orchestral but 16-bit is fine as well :D just go with whatever works best for you (just no electronic stuff)

Anyway Thanks in advance and I hope this request isn't too big or whatever :)

My request is for a story/video game character concept I thought of, inspired by the various events one who does not recognize it could think the Undertale fanart HERE could represent.

I would actually like multiple versions of the same song for this character, the "base" of which I've titled "Nothing."

While I'd rather not spill out the entirety of the info I've got until it's perfected, "Nothing" is a set of various versions of the same theme for an alternate persona possessed by a young girl who is aware of the alternate person but is stuck in a state of eternal delusion, forcing herself to stay under the impression that this alternate persona is a different "person" altogether and is stuck with the constant image of this companion. Something akin to an imaginary friend she created to attempt to justify -- to herself -- actions she takes while under the influence of the other personality. After so long of allowing her guilt to prevent the girl from eating any food or leaving her house, she begins to interpret the reality of her situation differently and so, whenever she's under the influence of this "alternate persona," she unconsciously fools herself into seeing another person acting in her stead until she eventually "convinces herself" to leave the home.

(If it sounds cheesy at all, please do not worry, for it is something I am working on and there is more information I have withheld. Of course, it may just be a bad idea.)

Anyhow...

Different versions of this character's themes express different feelings the girl feels when "speaking" with her "companion."

Such as,

Joyous Nothing - A theme played when the girl and this "companion" share some form of happy interaction. Not quite a super over the top positive theme, as it should still possess some aspects of a sense of "something's not right here." It should be relatively happy, though, but still have some subtle meta-expression for the player to be aware of the situation and the falsity of the reality, something with a slightly dark or crazy sound/theme underlying the happiness yet still express the form of happiness the girl is feeling.

Melancholic Nothing - A theme played when the girl and this "companion" share some form of slightly sad interaction. While still expressing some level of subtle, gentle sadness, melancholy, or nostalgia, or a sweet-yet-sour, sorrowful sense of emotion, it too should still possess some subtle sounds of meta-expression for the player to be aware of the situation and the falsity of the reality. with a slightly dark or potentially crazy sound/theme underlying the melancholy that the girl is feeling.

You Are in Control of Nothing(Negative Ver.) - A theme played when the "companion" gets angry at or scolds the girl. (Not the other way around, as that is another theme) Plays when the girl refuses to do as the companion says when the situation calls for it, or refuses to let the companion simply do as she wishes. This theme should be manic, panicky and express danger as well as the crazy/dark subtle meta-expression of the falsity of the reality she is witnessing. This theme would also play when the companion causes moments of extreme worry, stress or emotion for the girl.

You Are in Control of Nothing (Positive Ver.) - Not quite "positive," but the theme played when the girl succeeds in preventing her "companion" from doing as she wishes. It should be a lighter version of the Negative Ver. of "You Are in Control of Nothing." Something with a form of relief, yet overlying ominousness as well, still with the crazy/dark subtle meta-expression of the events' falsities.

I Will Let You Choose Nothing - Version of the theme played with the "companion" tries to force or push the girl to doing something she doesn't wish to do instead of doing it herself. Played when the girl is forced to make a huge decision, usually to kill or not to kill or something else along those lines that could negatively influence another's life in a huge manner.

You Will Succeed At Stopping Nothing - Actually a combat version of the theme, played during violent "conflicts" between the girl and the "companion" -- or, the girl's image of her fighting with her "companion." Should be the most notably dark, frantic, fast-paced and gothic-esque combat oriented theme of the bunch.

These are really all I could think of... Please do tell me if its too much.. ^^; If not, please do let me know if its possible to allow the themes to "flow" into one another, or transition gradually into the other one depending on the mood of the scenario.

What genre/theme are you looking for?: Something slightly melancholy, with sprinkles of hope and adventure mixed in here and there to break it up. I really love your mix of Butterfly Palace, though I'd probably be looking for something slightly less ambient.

What's the event in the game this track is helping portray? The setting?: Hopefully, this track will serve as the game's main theme (if you are comfortable with that).

Is the song-length important? If so, how long (or short)?: I need to be able to end the song after about 2 minutes, otherwise the opening movie will drag on too long. I would love to be able to have both a "full version" of the song that's longer as well as the movie length, but this is merely a preference, not a requirement.

Loop-de-loop? (...Loop?): Nope, it does not have to loop! :3

Anything special you'd like to request for the track?: I would really love to work with you Oceanically to do a track with vocals since I'd hope to make this my game's main theme.

If you are at all interested, then would you be okay with moving this conversation over to PM? I have a ton of ideas in my head (as well as details about my game to share) and I'd like to work out some kind of compensation for you and Oceanically, but I don't want to flood your thread, haha. My game is mostly a solo product with basically no budget, but I do some art and have a bit of money set aside.

Thank you so much! I look forward to hearing back from you and I hope that we can work something out. ^_^

What genre/theme are you looking for?: An exciting superboss battle theme! I'm thinking an electric-style song, with emotional, almost sad undertones at times.

What's the event in the game this track is helping portray? The setting?: It's the battle theme played during a secret superboss fight against one of the main character's close friends who is possessed. It's an emotional moment, as this character has a lot of development put in and has a special bond with the main character. It's a solo fight with the main character, too, so it's kind of a lonely feeling as well.

Is the song-length important? If so, how long (or short)?: Length isn't overly important, but it needs to be long enough to where it doesn't get too repetive to the player. It's a long fight, the boss has ~12 million HP, and the player damage caps out at 9999.

Loop-de-loop? (...Loop?): Loop it like a rollercoaster!

Anything special you'd like to request for the track?: Nothing I can think of. Just have fun with it! Make it something you'd want to listen to for a while.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
