XP Battle Problems!

This is the right place to post, right?

Kind of new to the forums... anyways..

In my game, the monster chases you and when it touches you, you go into battle. I have the "Battle Processing" event set up, but every time I attack while playing the game, it says 0.

I go to battle test in the Database and it works fine, all of the attacks are hitting and dealing damage.

But in the game, it isn't. It is doing this to some of my other games too...

Do you have any additional scripts, or is it the default battle system? In your Battle Processing event, do you have the correct troop selected?

What do you mean, "it says 0"? Does it come up with an error message with only the text 0? Do you actually go into battle? WHERE does it say 0? Attach a screenshot, if it's easier than trying to describe it.

There are no additional scripts. It is a default battle system, yes. I do have the correct troop.

What happens is no damage is being dealt. I would attack and the enemy remains unhurt, but when it attacks me, I take damage.

Where is the screenshot button... um..

In battle test, you can say what equipment you want your actors to have. This is not necessarily the default equipment they start with when you play the game. Have you checked to see that you've got the same gear equipped before you battle?

I can't really think of any other reason it might do damage in the battle test but not when you play the game.

Hello - Different poster, also with a battle-related issue.

I downloaded and installed RPG Maker XP yesterday. I built my first game with VX, really enjoyed it, but my end goal is to port the final game to rpg.js for play on the web. I'm familiar with how the software works, and I never had this issue before.

Anyway... I've playtested my current build. For some odd reason, when I successfully complete a battle, the game freezes. This is a new build, I haven't edited any scripting. I tried it with a default character against a default enemy first, I've tried it with custom enemies and modifying characters. I'm wondering if it's a problem with the scripting or with the software loader?

Does this happen with ALL battles, or only some? Can you post a screenshot of your event where you call the battle processing? Sounds like you might be setting a switch that turns on a parallel process or autorun event.

When "the game freezes" is it still in the battle screen, or is it back on the map?

Thank you Shaz. It's all battles. I haven't added any custom processing. I tried opening up multiple enemies in the "battle processing" tester.

Edit: I also have run play testing a few times with multiple enemy sets, all with the same result.

I don't know that there is anything to screenshot. The party defeats the enemies, the enemies disappear, and then the battle music keeps playing. I opened up a new blank project and copy and pasted the code from the battle processing script, on the off-chance that I accidentally edited something when I was poking around. No go, same result. I can open that new blank project and try running battle processing there. Is there any type of console that can be used to monitor errors?

I can't think of anything that would cause this. If you want to zip up your game and give me a link (don't encrypt it) I can take a look and see if I can figure out the issue.

Thank you Shaz, send me your email through the message board system if you don't mind. It will have to wait until next week, but I appreciate that. I suspect it is with the actual RTS. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling my RPG Maker and RTS files, even cleared them from the registry to do a complete re-install, but nothing seems to work. Very bizarre. :(

Got your game. I have no issues with it. When I battle, the battle ends, it tells me what loot I got, then it takes me back to the map where I can keep walking around.

Looking at that map, I do notice that you have an event in the top right that's set to parallel process, and all it does is change the screen tone. THAT might cause some lag, but I don't know that it'd freeze the game. What's happening is that because it's parallel process, it's looping. So it's continually changing the screen tone. You should put an Erase Event after that so it runs once, then quits, until you leave the map and come back again.

An event set to parallel process or autorun that has no way of ending is always the first thing I look for when a game freezes or lags. Second thing is a move route that's set to "wait for completion" that actually can't complete (because there's an obstacle in the way).

I have the same problem. But the main character don't have a default weapon,and may only receive a weapon from Tutorial. What i do? I've even created a "weapon" called Nothing but still immortal baddies.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
