First of all, I apologize in advance if this is not the proper place to post this.

I'm beginning to work on a new RPG and decided to try something a bit different from what I normally do: mobs that appear as events on the map and will chase the player when they get too close and will cease to chase the player when they get far enough away. After doing a few hours of digging and doing research on how to accomplish this, I was directed towards Yanfly's Event Chases Player Script found here.

When I downloaded it, I noticed the wiki said it was for VX Ace while the only download I could find that was linked to it was an MV script. I decided to throw it into my game just to see if it would work. It didn't. It gave me an error message on the first line of script. I'm assuming the MV and VX Ace scripts are incompatible, which leads me to my next problem.

I'm not much of a programmer myself and am not trained in javascript, so I'm always leery of using scripts. How would I be able to fix this issue? Is there a way to make the MV version backwards compatible with VX Ace? Is there a way to get the VX Ace version? I'm kind of frustrated because this script seems exactly what I need for my mobs.

Thank you for all your help in advance!

Unfortunately, VX Ace scripts are written in ruby while MV plugins are written in Javascript; the two languages are completely different. It is not a matter of adding backward compatibility, it is a matter of writing it in a different language.

That said, if I am not mistaken @TheoAllen should have a script that allows you to create events that chase the player. I am unable to give you a link, but maybe he can add it once he receives the notification.

I totally forgot that VX Ace ran with Ruby. It's been awhile since I used scripts, so that would explain a lot. Well, I either need to wait for Theo or try to find an older version of Yanfly's script for VX Ace.

Thank you so much for the quick reply @Heirukichi <3

There is a "lost scripts" thread pinned at the top of one of the forums, which should have a link to all of Yanfly's Ace scripts on Github.

I don't recall Yanfly has chase player script for VXAce. It probably never existed.

And as Heirukichi said, I do have pathfinding script (https://github.com/theoallen/RGSS3/blob/master/Pathfinding (ENG).rb) with chase player feature, however, I'm not proud of it for some reasons. It works though (or it should work) but I never utilize it myself. I didn't receive many issue reports either though (either they scared away because of my disclaimer, or it actually has little to no issue).

Okay, so it looks like there is a Yanfly for RPG Maker VX Ace that is a little less detailed than the MV version, but it should suit my needs. I am eternally grateful for you all pointing to me in the right direction and especially to @TheoAllen for coming to my rescue if I can't get this script working.

I'm going to head into the engine now and tweak stuff until I get it to work the way I want it to.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
