I only have a mobile device for now to reply here, so if there's a need for pictures, they won't be super clear.

Anyways, I've learned quite a bit today. This is my first RPG maker project on MV. I still have a lot to do, and elements are a huge deal for my game. I've even made up new elements by name of holy and sin and such. And I've been trying to find a way to give characters elements just like the way it works on Pokemon. You know, water beats fire. I tried in the beginning to set a characters regular attack as fire, I set an enemy to be weak to fire by their traits but I don't see it making a difference and the attacks seem to work like normal. I tried the element core plugin, I followed it's instructions from the site and video, such as posting things in the notetag area, for example,
<Element Absorb: Fire>
<Element Absorb: 2>
<Multiple Elements: 2>
<ADD ELEMENTS: 2>
I tried to see if they could absorbed of do greater damage, but it appears the plugin isn't doing anything at all.

I put them under the battle core plugin like it said in the list. I tried adding the notes to enemies, weapons and team members, but nothing.

I'm wondering what I'm not getting right.
Here's where I'm getting it from;

If you know an easier way or a different better plugin to simply give enemies and party members and also to absorb HP from certain elements, please let me know

Edit: also I made sure the plugins are on. I barely even have any others on. Like 5 total for now all from YEP

You don't need a plugin for this, it should be doable with basic element functions. So if you write
I tried in the beginning to set a characters regular attack as fire, I set an enemy to be weak to fire by their traits but I don't see it making a difference and the attacks seem to work like normal.
then that means you did something wrong with the basic element rate and element assignments.
And it is very likely that the same mistake with the basic elements also causes the problems with the plugin, because yanfly writes his plugins to enhance options for the basic functions and not to replace them.

So basically we need screenshots to see where you went wrong - screenshots of an example enemy, of the attack skill (#1) and of the actor (where you placed the element for the attack be that actor, class or equipment)

it might be that they're too big, use ms paint or gimp to resize them a bit.
and use alt-prtscrn instead of prtscrn alone - that limits the screenshot to the active window, reduzing size as well.

okay, by the sounds of things you've actually never got it working before. so im going to include some screenshots of my own, and maybe that might help you in-case your phone continues to not let you upload anything.

okay First, Fire Attack an attack with fire element vs. a normal attack against an enemy that takes 10x more fire damage.
for simplicity, both skills are going to use a simple formula that actually ignores physical defense. keep in mind that Element rates are applied after any defense/attack formulas and before any critical. this means if you do 0 base damage (based on physical defense) with a attack that fire elemental on a fire weak enemy, it will still be 0 damage. This may have changed in Yanfly's plugin.

MVNormalAttack.png

Nothing Special right? Most of these settings should be default
Here is Fire Attack
MVFireAttack.png

everything is exactly the same except the element parameter up top right is changed to Fire
now lets look at our enemy!

MVEnemy.png

See the Element Rate Trait up top in the traits box? I've set that to

Fire * 1000%

that means any fire attack should do 10x Damage on this guy. its it important to know that Element rates here are multiplicative percentages, that means if you put a * 100% it makes no change to the damage whatsoever, if you put a * 0% ANYWHERE it will render the enemy completely immune to that element.

Now since we are using Yanfly's Element core you can see there is a note tag on the enemy, if this dude is hit with a Light Elemental attack, he will absorb its damage provided that attack is setup correctly.

upon Battle Testing this with a Lvl 90 character,
Normal attack did ~250 damage,
Fire Attack did ~2500 damage,
Pillar of Seraph, a Light attack with a base power of 3000, did ~-3000 damage. or in other words he absorbed it!.

Hope it helps

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
