blurry user interface (what gives?) Why is it so blurry? It is giving me a headache!

- It's not blurry.  You're just used to crisp text from the other releases.  This uses QT which is needed for what it deploys to
This is not correct. I use other programs that use QT and they have sharp menus on PC and Mac. It is not required to have blurry text with QT developed programs.

Not crisp can be called blurry. No point it trying to sweep it under the rug.

Is the text blurry?

Aside from the questionable choice of font, it seems OK to me.

It's far from sharp and can be easily noticed when you see other windows menus open next to it. It's a distraction and I don't have any other programs that don't show crisp text. Text should be crisp regardless of font. If you ever open up a font file you will see they don't have gradients in them. :)

Some people are more sensitive to it than others.

The font issue may be partly a Windows thing (not sure, so don't hold me to that). I had an issue with the newest version of Word showing blurry fonts. It was an issue with Windows and the way it displays fonts. The fix was simply, but I don't remember off hand what it was. As I'm about to leave for work soon I don't have time to look, but when I get home tomorrow morning I'll play around and try to find the fix, and see if it works for MV. If it does (and no one else has already posted a solution) I will create a thread describing the process. Again, no guarantees that the same fix will work, as the problem could be unrelated.

They advertise it as such.
Don't start. In the RPG Maker Channel (y'know, the videos that were shown before release stating what the engine could and could not do) It was stated the RPG Maker is a community driven engine.

Oh look, I have source:

you keep bringing up the price but its not relevant. Regardless of price you will always want to spend time doing research. If you bought a $3000 software you would be expected to read about it, or watch some tutorials....

Normal users do read. And I also had the alt enter issue. Not sure why it changed but someone kindly informed me that F4 now does that. It was 1am so I didn't read the help either...

on the surface yes, but I wouldn't expect them to get very far at all...
the funny thing is, the more expensive a program is the LESS user friendly it usually is because it's becoming more "professional" you know, people who READ and research how to use the programs and engines?

Nobody is going to know this, why change what every other application and every previous version has had?

No it has a broken UI and won't activate if you have Windows 10
My cousin has the program and I tried it out. Works on Windows 10 just fine.

In short: this is user error, not program error.

You've just described most people in the world

Anyway, MV isn't perfect. I was skeptical coming to this, but from I see so far, I'm impressed. If I wanted absolute full control I'd still be digging around in Unreal (and yes, I went there for a while). Guess what - that's a "community supported" engine now, too! Who saw that coming before it did?

I've got a nice big monitor so the fonts aren't too blurry for me, but I can see that being an issue.  Other than the actual editor though, I've been able to find just about everything I'd want to change in the .js files (and I want to change a LOT). This is MUCH more "open" than Ace ever dreamed of being, albeit at the cost of being a little less 'friendly'. I'll gladly take that trade-off, since it's still very friendly as far as game engines go.

For a 'plug-in/script' editor, Notepad++ does pretty well. There are more 'full featured' ones out there, but that's free and easy to set up. Open up a .js file and it knows it's javascript and formats and highlights appropriately.  The graphics/scenes/sprites are all laid out in the .js so you can change those to whatever your heart desires.

As far as supporting sprites and such... I'll admit I haven't been digging around the core files long but I don't see much that can't be changed, including the size and scale of whatever you want to use. I'm not sure how _necessary_ the tileset editor is at this point (and you could parallax back in Ace). The GIMP is free, so is MS Paint, and I think I picked up a Spriter from some Humble Bundle a while back, so there are plenty of options out there.

Have fun and happy creating!

Edit: And while I'll agree in principal that DRM is bad, Steam is SOOO much better than that cogen crap or whatever it was that forced me to do a complete OS reinstall back when I first started Ace/XP that there is no comparison at all.

There are some things I like about RPG MV and some thing I don't like about it.

I like the BGM and sound files for example, they're really nice, but I don't like how few there are.

I like all of the different sprite views the character generator creates, but I don't like the limited choices as far as facial features and outfits are concerned.

At first glance the tilesets and sprites seem more colorful and detailed, but again seem to be limited in their selection.

And of course I have whole lot more likes and dislikes

Oh, sure, I know I know "These can be added later, yada yada yada" etc. But when I buy a program I expect all the good stuff to be in it already, not have to buy more, or track down everyone for their approval to use their stuff in my games and so forth.

Overall, MV is ok, not what I was expecting, not spectacular, but ok. I want to learn more about using the play in the browser function. If it's something that you can set up a website and players can play your game right in their browser and be able to save their game play without having to DL anything and you can continue to add more content and expand the game, then I think that's an awesome feature.

The power of the plugins and JavaScript and ease of use for the game, in my opinion, will have to be seen and proven as I explore the platform more.

Still wish a box version had been offered, I would have gladly paid extra for it.

But for now, I'm leaning to sticking with Ace.

The thing I'm kinda disliking is the lack of decent and detailed documentation, and all the manual copying & pasting with explicit filenames, etc...  Just seems so tedious, and you'd like an editor would have the appropriate automated pieces to avoid manual mistakes...

Message system still can't word wrap (this should have been the first thing to be worked on) A line does not a word wrap make! You people obviously knew there was an issue so you put a line, have it word wrap at the line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even Notepad for Windows has wordwrapping support

No full screen support

no widescreen resolutions on PC or Mac

no in game script editor so now we are even more locked out of our games

no html 5 deployment option to be found

No support for anything other than Chibi style sprites or resources.

DRM is bad and gives me issues in Windows 10, it simply won't activate on Windows 10, it just keeps spitting me back to the same screen when I try.

blurry user interface (what gives?) Why is it so blurry? It is giving me a headache!

Broken help tips when hovering over items. I am using default Windows 7 color settings.

This is just as much a letdown as VX was, if not more so, at least VX UI wasn't blurry or broken. I had such high hopes for this release. Oh well enjoy the money, perhaps there will be updates that address these glaring issues. For (some of us $71) an $80 "professional" tool I expected better. Come on why release such a broken application? You should have put development off for another month to address these issues. I am very sad for this release.

When I say "you" I mean KADOKAWA not Deciga. Maybe one of the devs here can pass along the information to KADOKAWA and they can fix this.

Plugins (included with the preorder as well!) fix the first few issues you described.

Pc export is html5 deployment.
This is unacceptable. Plugins made by the community even if shipped is not right. Should be in the base game. It's time this company split into 2 and started offering us in the west a more suited polished version.

RPG Maker is a game engine and tool, not a game. You can't expect to not have to learn anything.
Now only if the devs took the same stance and understood that it's a game engine and a tool that require constant updates and feature and growth rather then releasing it and waiting 2 years for MV Ace where removes more features.

What is the difference between a shipped plugin and "in the base game", as far as the scripts are concerned?

There are plenty of official plugins provided by kadokawa; are you going to say those are also just community scripts?

To be honest, the only reason why you can consider this a somewhat good release is because Degica and the western community went out of their way to add functions that should already be in the program itself. Take out their awesome work and all you have left is a downgrade from VX Ace with a really, really weird interface.

I was going to write a lengthy reply but you don't deserve my time - I'd rather get back to the game.

I will say however - building correct tiling tools, dialogue or a semi-decent combat system yourself for an RPG takes weeks & months of work (which I have all done in the past in C#), and for $71 (pre-order) that's a damn good bargain.

The only difference between 'in the base game' and 'not in the base game' is only a copypaste away, and the creators of the scripts actively worked with Kado, lol.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
