Hello again!

So I looked up and down the forum posts for answers, even on Google, but either I don't understand, or it hasn't been answered the way I want it to be.

I would like to change the keyboard input if possible without scripts. I understand you can hit F1 in game or testing to change the keyboard layout. I understand I can change the Space bar from C to ABXYZLR or nothing. Great. Fantastic. What the hell does that mean? What exactly are scripted to ABCXYZLR? I did find this post:

http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/5002-keyboard-controls/

Which states C is Confirm, B is for Back and Menu, L and R are to cycle pages in the menu. Then they say the rest are reserved for scripts. Do they mean scripts I put in, or scripts already in the game? Also not mentioned was A is for Running/Increasing speed.

Also, there are two statements that need to be cleared up (at least for myself). I've read that if you adjust the keyboard layout using F1 that it does not save and that it is only for the player to adjust it in game. Is this true, because this forum post:

http://www.rpgmakervxace.net/topic/16717-how-do-i-edit-the-control-scheme/

says this: "You can't set them in game using event commands, but the settings when you save the project files remain until you change them again." So are they talking about the F1 settings? Because the post is about keyboard input. Also, it never mentions WASD Keyboard keys for movement instead or along with the Arrow keys. Is this possible without scripts?

In the end, I'm guessing it's up to using scripts to change things? I get that I can change the limited available keyboard buttons to the internal "buttons" like change the Space bar to A (which is running). But as stated, I'm not sure what XYZ specifically do. So, if you have any script links, that would be great, I will probably check out Yanfly in the meantime. What I'm looking for is hopefully something pretty customizable, also free to use would be great but that is optional. If there is a script that also allows the player to change the configuration through an option in the menu, that'd be great too.

Thanks!

I believe the F1 settings are local to that computer, and I THINK if you change the settings when you're playing one game, they will also be changed when you play another game. They might be set in the registry or something. It certainly wouldn't take much effort to test it out.

You cannot change the keyboard settings via F1 and expect people who play your game to use the same settings.

"Used in scripts" means used in the custom scripts. If they wanted to provide the capability for people to use key input in scripts that they had no use for themselves, why limit it to only half a dozen? Why not give ALL of them?

In short - you cannot set up input for keys that are not already catered for. The trick is, as you say, figuring out what keys correspond with what codes they use in that dialogue. The C button is not actually the C key on your keyboard. The A button is not the A key on your keyboard. The 'C' button is the space key and the enter key - you can use either. The 'B' button (I think - don't have Ace in front of me) can be either the escape key or the X key.

Once you figure out what those are (you could do that by using them in conditional branches in a parallel process event just to show a message whenever the "key is pressed" condition evaluates to true for each key available), if the key you're after is not there, the only way to add it is via scripts.

I will go ahead and move this to Script Requests. There are a couple of good keyboard scripts out there, but you will still have to add the functionality.

Also a list the default keys that RPGm VXace uses is located in the help under playing a game (no need for trial an error then).

Just as added info to better understand:

The basic controls for RM are gamepad controls. That is where those names come from, the buttons ABC, XYZ, L/R are on most modern gamepads.

The F1 allows the player to decide how his/her keyboard is used to emulate the gamepad, that's why it's player dependent and can't be set by the developer.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? To whom ever person or persons who re-did the DS/DS+ asset packs for MV (as in, they are all 48x48, and not just x2 the pixel scale) .... THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! XwwwwX
