you might like xenoblade chroniclesAlthough it has a serious storyline, and moments. It's also quirky and upbeat at times, and has the other qualities you just described@Oddball I definitely see how many of the mechanics in DK64 are tedious. I actually would say I prefer Banjo Kazooie because it's not as disruptive. But in general I love games where large overworld exploration suddenly turns into tasks to complete with goodies to grab along the way. I also like the quirky and upbeat nature of these games.
I didn't played it much.Other games I've replayed too much are Final Fantasy VI (who hasn't?)
I remember seeing my friend playing that game on the PS1. For the time being I remember it looks pretty fun, but I don't remember much aside from the fact that you raise monsters and battle them in some sort of Colosseum. What's the game play actually like?Monster Rancher.
Oh gosh, I loved R&C3. Finished it like 3 times. Had the best weapons, armour, all the bolts, beat Annihilation Nation, everything. It was insane!Ratchet & Clank Going Commando (beat that at least 10 times), also NBA / NFL Street (1 and 2 for both series). Icewind Dale and Titan Quest are also still fun
It is mostly about that, raising monsters, training them in different aspects. You can use other game CDs to unlock different monsters. Fusing them to get crossbreeded monsters. Managing their diets, rewarding them but not spoiling them. Conquering the tourneys against stuck-up pompous condescending arseholes. It is kind of a glorified battle Tamagotchi. But yet oh sooo fun.I remember seeing my friend playing that game on the PS1. Well, sound like I've been missing out all these years. I'll have to pick a copy of this game up sometime and give it a try. I enjoy studding older game engines. It is mostly about that, raising monsters, training them in different aspects. You can use other game CDs to unlock different monsters. In Monster Rancher 4 onwards, you can explore dungeons as well with a party of monsters, extending methods of training even further.
I really love the battle system based on distance, the way of training any monster in any way you desire and they still can turn out pretty badass (unlike Pokemon), the variety of monsters... It's one of my favourite games, sadly underrated and eventually never saw a decent sequel since. It could've gone so, so far, it just didn't get as much light shined on it as it should've.
I second this. I was more of a N64 kind of guy but I would always enjoy going down the street to my friends house to play "Crash Bandicoot" and "Twisted Metal" with him.Gex: Enter the Gecko.
Also the first Crash Bandicoot, good times man.
