Hands down, Heroes of Might and Magic II - The Succession Wars is my most favorite. Well, okay, part of that is because of the hex-editing, which lead to the "Negative spell power does that!?" moment of awesome.

Other favorites include, but are not limited to, the old Might and Magic titles (especially 4 and 5), Chaos Overlords, Star Control 2 (I literally cannot see the word "orz" without seeing the race of the same name in my head.), Heretic, Master Of Orion II, and Wing Commander - Privateer.

Awww, man. I hear I've really been missing out. I only got to play a demo of Crash Bandicoot, but it was such a blast.

Two of my other PS1 favorites (besides xenogears, as mentioned above.) are Parasite Eve and Tekken 2. I had found a 32 hit combo with Jun-li that was only stoppable if you countered the first hit, otherwise my opponents flew into the air until they were k,o'd.

"Conker's Bad Fur Day" is another great game made by Rare at that time. These are the type of games I really miss. I'm probably wearing my nostalgia goggles though. But, hey! Another point for bright, kooky, and politically incorrect games.

I feel like out-dated usually means it doesn't hold up as well today as it would have in the past.  For example, I like a lot of old crpg's like: the rpg might & magic series (not heroes), ultima underworld, arcanum, evil islands -  I would say most of these games are pretty un-intuitive and therefore are very outdated in that respect.

The most outdated and awesome game I ever played were the two Lufia from SNES. :D
And the Phantasy Star Series on Master System and Mega Drive. :D
Also "To Be On Top" from C-64 was freakin' awesome. I still love the music of it. <3 (\s/)

For me, I probably have 2.

First is Megaman Legends.  I don't know what it is about that game but I just love it.  Always takes me 8 hours X minutes to beat it.  I always have fun playing it.  I go back and play it once in a while, maybe once a year or two.

Second is Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars.  I guess I'm just a nolstalgic person.  I do love old games.  I like the music in this game, and it was I think my first real RPG game even before Pokemon.  That's probably why it has a special place in my heart.  Plus it's Mario.  I still remember a lot of the secrets, being able to see Link and/or Samus sleeping at the Inn...I think in Rose Town.

I bought the Nintendo 64 Version of "Mega Man Legends" called "Mega Man 64" back when it first came out and loved it. There was a lot of content in that game, especially optional side quests. I always wondered if there were any differences between the two versions of the game, and I also wondered why "Mega Man Legends 2" was never ported over to the Nintendo 64 (may have been the fact that there were npc's that were smoking cigarettes).

Super Mario RPG is one of my favorite games of all time; likewise, the Paper Mario series as well. They are simple but fun and enjoyable. Some games can really, really make you think and test your limits, but this game and many of the other games I've seen mentioned in this thread just plain made me happy. They aren't always the hardest or most provocative games but they ooze charm and character. Lovable characters, killer soundtracks, and memorable stages.

I'm going to "troll" with some real moldy golden oldies.

KC Munchkin for the Intellivision, which came out around the time I was born. KC's Krazy Chase was a great sequel (to someone who could count to 10).

My parents first let me play around the time when I was four or five. I really miss that series.

(About the same time, my neighbor had an NES, and I was green with envy.)

A few years later, I was playing Rad Warrior, Arkanoid, and Thexder on a CoCo 3. Good times.

My dad had a Tandy 1000SX. He let me play Digger (1983), BreakOut, and a few others I can't remember.

And, like someone said earlier, I loved Bubble Bobble. The sequel (Rainbow Island) was good, but not as much in my younger self's opinion.

The D&D Goldbox games, though I can never beat them. Truly brutal oldschool RPGS.

I'd say Sega Rally 2 PC. I used to play it when I was 3.

Gotta be Star Ocean 2 for the PS1.  It didn't even look or control great in its day but it was the single best example of East-meets-West RPG technique I've ever seen and to this day I enjoy the gameplay thoroughly.  It's challenging, it's exciting, it's thoughtful... it's just brilliant.
Gotta agree with that, with one caveat. The PSP remake is even better than the PS1 version due to cleaned up translation.

Are we allowed to post about non-RPG Maker games? And, if so, would any of you be interested in a short, proof of concept type non-euclidian puzzle game?
I should realize that error was produced by a outdated version of MZ so that's why it pop up like that
