I created a poll like this over at RMN a few months ago. As it stands, I still think it's an interesting topic to discuss. From the results of the last topic/poll, it seems like the Fantasy setting was the most popular one.

I suppose that the Fantasy setting is my favorite, since my imagination is usually very vast. It can also add a lot of variety to the different locations of a game which I enjoy. I enjoy everything from humble little forest villages to dark, futuristic steel cities!

I'm curious to know what settings people enjoy the most and of course why! If I've forgot some important settings, just tell me! I think I've covered the most popular

ones at least. :)

I am assuming we only vote for one, right? If so, I've voted for futuristic/sci-fi. Fantasy would come a close second for me. Both of these interest me the most because they explore either mine or someone else's imagination and bring interesting ideas that are worth thinking, not to mention also being perfect for symbolism and parallels to real life. Because they're different to the real world, I find it easier to immerse in them. I think fantasy will most likely get the most votes on a poll like this, since it seems to be liked by many. It's also a pretty broad genre. Fantasy can be medieval, futuristic, modern, or something in between.

I mostly go with either fantasy or sci-fi

Usually both has absurbly cool in terms of the world concept. But they have different approach. Fantasy use magic to explain the world while futuristic use science to explain the world.

I don't really like modern day / realistic. I've already seen in my whole life, so I need something different.

Steampunk is not bad, they have their own theme. So I like it.

I voted for western setting as well, since I don't really like orientals theme (even I'm asian).

Is it possible to make polls here which people can make multiple votes? If so, I wasn't aware of that.

Yeah, a big part of fantasy (playing games in general for me) is to take a break from the reality.

I think this poll already had the possibility of choosing more than one. Square boxes usually means more than one can be selected, whilst circular ones mean only one.

Anything is pretty fair game for me. Each aesthetic has qualities I like and each setting has the possibility to be incredibly creative and imaginative. Many, and most I'd say, tend to be a combination of settings and times in their influence. Even modern settings can be very fantastical and kooky, look at Earthbound.

When I think about it, it's more likely I care more what the game does with the setting rather than what they've picked in particular. There are bad examples of every thing, even if I typically like that setting.

My favorite would have to be Fantasy, because I view that as having the most limitless potential.

The fun with that is fantasy can, by its nature, be merged with any other genre --- you have "urban fantasy" like the Dresden Files series (current Chicago with fantasy elements added in), the classic Medieval fantasy RPG settings, Sci-fi/Futuristic fantasy (a.k.a. "soft" sci-fi), western fantasy (see: Wild Wild West), steampunk fantasy (Jim Butcher said, if he continued the Codex Alera series, it would kind of become this).  You could even argue a LOT of horror games have a fantasy element (fantasy does NOT always equal nice and good --- an unkillable horror qualifies as fantasy)

After that, I'd say the sci-fi/futuristic genre is up there for me, because I like exploring what-ifs

Since you can cast multiple votes, I voted for fantasy an modern day. :p

Fantasy has already been explained by the users above, so I don't think I need to add any more to it.

On the other hand, the reason I chose modern is because it has very little representation in the RPG genre (aside from the SMT series and few not quite as notable others), yet there are a lot of interesting "what if" scenarios that can be explored with this setting. Not only that, but it also offers a possibility to relate to the plot that the other genres just can't posses.

Well...that's just my two cents.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
