  • Involved battles, whether skill-intensive bosses or dangerous mooks
  • Hinted-at setting lore, discovered through character-driven narrative and other interactions
  • Learning new skills, adding to your repertoire of combat options in an arms race against new baddies and their own skills
  • NPCs that ooze with personality, giving you a reason to interact with them, and to save their world
  • Exploring new and exciting areas, both dungeons and towns
  • Interesting equipment, which makes you regret replacing your +1 svord with its +2 upgrade
  • Non-boss enemies that matter, giving your hero(es) new threats to learn about and overcome through new mechanics, skills, etc

When playing games, what activity in the game do you especially like to do?
(Just to name a "few" options :p)
Battles
Trading
Crafting
Cooking
Quests - Following a storyline or completing small side quests.
Mining
Searching for treasure - Digging for it or salvaging from something.
Farming
Achievements
Exploring - In houses, mines, towns or countries.
Having a family
Building - Ships, houses, villages or kingdoms
Customizing - Character appearance, weapon stats or furniture in a house
Mini games
Fishing
Puzzles
Personally, my favorite three are probably searching for treasure, customizing my character and completing achievements.
I enjoy exploring the gaming world and collecting as many items as I can. Plus I enjoy training my characters little more then I should you can never be to prepared after all.

I guess if you're just going solo dev, minimize features is better choice.
As close as possible, now I draw all of them with little by little needle sticking.
