Your favourite games with dinosaurs in them

Dinosaurs are sadly under represented in video games!  We're often relegated to the sidelines or pushed aside in favour of those pesky dragons.  Some games do carry the torch however, my personal favourite being Orion: Dino Beatdown!

What is your favourite dinosaur game?

The only crisis I can see here is that dislocated toe, no wonder there's blood everywhere!

I only noticed how under-represented dinossaurs are, when my girlfriend asked if I had any game about them and I couldn't even find any decent one to buy.

I guess my choice would be Dino Crisis too, even though I hardly played it, there isn't much competition.

I love dinosaurs, but I am yet to play a good dinosaur game. And by that I mean a proper dinosaur game, with them being the focus, and not only as 1-2 enemies being thrown in randomly.

I actually enjoyed Jurassic Park - The Game.


Then again Telltale Games gave me 100% discount code to be used any of their games as apology so. That might have helped.

To be honest, I have yet to find a decent dinosaur game. The Tyrannosaurus is so overused in JRPGs right now I'm fed up with fighting them, and I find that many other interesting types of dinosaurs are underused. I do plan on making a Cretaceous-Era survival game myself at some point just to see some more representation for them.

I've also personally never played the Jurassic Park game, but I have heard it's decent. I'm just highly skeptical about it.

@ Imascribble: You've nailed it on the head. T-rex and raptors are way overdone. And velociraptors are often depicted wrong, because those big monstrosities in JP are NOT velociraptors, they're more like deinonychus or utahraptor. Real velociraptors were way smaller. The only reason their name was used is because it's a more attractive name for Hollywood audience than the other two I've mentioned.

As for Jurassic Park games, the only one I've played in the past is this one on Genesis, which was ok:

Lost World: Jurassic Park

JP for SNES, I never beat, but it's alright, and the music is great.

JP2 is a strangely cool game. It's using a little creative liberty, but it's a challenging game, and it has 2 player co-op!

JP for Genesis, is a little strange in some ways, but I enjoy it. I like how you can play as Dr. Grant or a Raptor!

LW:JP...is a little too hard for my tastes. Too linear too. You can't just play as whichever dino you want, you have to do stuff in order. And the T-Rex is weak...

I plan to have a heavy dinosaur focus in some of my RPGs, usually with playable dinosaurs!

I'm afraid I'm going to have to argue with you on that one a bit.

Deinonychus was in fact what Michael Crichton based his "Velociraptors" on, but even then they were oversized. Deinonychus wouldn't have been able to reach the 6 ft height the raptors show in the movie and the game (not with a 2.85 ft hip height!). On the other end of the spectrum, Utahraptor appears to be too large compared to the dinosaurs on screen. More likely it was an unintentional mash-up of the two of them (in terms of size, at least).

... Sorry, I get like this when I talk about dinosaurs...

Lol yeah, you're right. Still, either of those is way closer to the movie version than the true velociraptor. There's a lot to say. For one, Jurassic Park should be called Cretaceous Park, since most dinos in there (raptors, T-rex certainly) were from Cretaceous period.
