.ZIP file woes...

Hello everyone,

I'm back with another question - I completed a demo for my game and tried uploading .ZIP files of both the PC and Mac versions (game made on a Mac, BTW) to itch.io and have been having problems.  I first tried decompressing the .ZIP file on my own computer to test it out, and the game worked perfectly fine, but then when someone, including myself, tries to decompress it after downloading it from the web, the game becomes corrupt and won't open.  Only one person, it would seem, has reportedly gotten it to work, and it was with the PC version, and that was with an unzipped version downloaded from Dropbox.  When the Mac equivalent was unzipped it "exploded" into all these files on Dropbox, and that was a whole other problem.

I should note that when first uploading, I originally tried linking the file from Dropbox to my itch.io, and when that failed, I later tried directly uploading the .ZIP files to itch.io.  I'm not sure why it would be uncorrupt before upload and download and then become un-openable afterwards.  I have wasted a lot of bandwidth trying to figure this one out on my own.  Help!

RMMV
Seems like a problem on their end, tons of people make games here everyday and share them via some sort of file sharing site and a lot of people zip the files for room and not often do you hear that the files become corrupt and such. If it's working before upload and is corrupt after it definitely doesn't have anything to do with the mv game itself.

Here's another detail re: the situation -

I don't use Dropbox that much, but I needed to for an arcade the game went into over the weekend (so that the hosts could retrieve the game).  So I don't know all the ins and outs of Dropbox and what can go wrong.  They were able to download the unzipped PC version without problems.

Anyway, the unzipped game was in my Dropbox folder, and within that folder, I zipped it for itch.io.  Could that have contributed to the corruption?

Next time, ''zip' the entire deployed folder locally, not on a distant server. Then upload the 'zipped' file to wherever you want it hosted. I'd be very wary of working at all with MV in a distant 'cloud' location. Save it there, fine, but work locally. Much more reliable, in my opinion.

Just my tuppence-worth.

Well, I tried that, and when I downloaded it from itch.io to test it again, it still won't open.  Says the file is damaged and that it should be moved to the trash.  Anyone else wanna see if it works at their end?  If so, here's the link:

Good luck - I don't seem to have any luck at my end!  :/

Zip file downloaded, un-zipped and Game installed, with no problems whatsoever (Downloaded through an Opera browser, installed onto Win 10, 64-bit...). A rather dark theme, but I've not gone past the intro sequence for now. The music is not my style (but then again, I'm old...
), otherwise very smoothly put together; well done. Nowt wrong with the zip file, in any case.  I can't try the Mac version; that's for the rich folks.

Well, that's a relief!  At least I know PC users are able to play it!

Thanks for trying it for me! :)
