Discover the dark origins of the most feared and sinister Magi of the magical world of Gethelese. This is the story of an innocent school girl who is tragically reborn as a feared demon in a fantasy world. Embark on her quest with her three loyal companions to end the nightmare and return to the familiar modern world she once treasured. Experience riveting combat and deep character customization as you rank up in the underworld and defeat revered heroes to earn your way back home.

I am also the creator of Mana Raiders but unlike that game I intend to make this project commercial. Also unlike Mana Raiders, this game does NOT require any button inputs during combat.

fGf9r6g.png
ZtZKBcy.png

SRLdffA.png

Zolla - The main protagonist. Zolla can be very vindictive and short tempered, but she is very loyal and kind to those that put their trust in her. After a tragic death she is revived as a Magi by the evil god Alkadeius. To earn her way back home she must prove herself by ranking up as a demon to earn the ever coveted "Blood Wish". However, the harder she strives to achieve her goals the more of her humanity she loses.

JXxPPtD.png

C5m71jY.png

Aphita - The spunky and energetic best friend of Rivna. She too loses her life and is revived as a Magi. Together with Zolla, Sylphie, and Rivna they all make a pact to help each other achieve the Blood Wish to return home.

aLK9FDX.png

TvduKTG.png

Sylphie - The cool and calculated close friend of Zolla. She's highly intelligent and always scores at the top of her class. Sylphie can be a bit snobby and blunt but is ultimately a good friend with a heart of gold. She tends to be very altruistic with her actions.

MR3BMJj.png

ACplX5q.png

Rivna - The ever thinking gadget master. Although she can be a bit pessimistic and condescending at times, she always has her thinking cap on to forge her way out of any situation. She is always supportive of those she holds dear.

jOmWvUN.png
Unlike many other RPGs, Zolla's Nightmare allows the player to change a character's class on the fly mid-combat by simply selecting an ability that belongs to the specified class. Each character can change into three distinct classes and can equip up to eight different abilities during combat. Every class plays a unique role so it will behoove the player to master all of them.

YJUoLIT.png

Blavyk Caster - The main spellcaster class and essentially the "Black Mage" of the game. Zolla is the queen of magic damage when she is in this class but she also serves as a magical tank. More details will be coming soon!

B21upy7.png

Iynvyk Caster - The main healer class or "White Mage" of the game. Zolla's healing output as this class is unrivaled but she deals the least amount of damage out of all her other classes. Whenever Zolla changes to this class during combat the entire party will be healed for 25% of their maximum hp.

tbdkSCx.png

Zoh-Gyn - The "Samurai" class. This class focuses on physical damage, mainly through critical hits. This class can be a real monster in battle if the player can consistently score critical hits with it. Upon changing to this class the entire party will have their critical hit rate boosted by +50% for 1 turn.

5CIGIw2.png

Kreygyk Warrior - This is the main powerhouse "Gladiator" class. It has high attack and defense and boasts some of the most damaging physical attacks in the game. This class's normal attacks have a chance to activate the Kreygyk Spirit State, which allows Aphita to counter with more powered up versions of her abilities. This class mainly focuses on fire and rock elemental damage and upon changing to it grants the party a +100% chance to turn their next normal attack into a Greater Attack.

ZUfjVg7.png

Scarlet Caster - Essential the "Red Mage" class of the game that focuses on both Magical and Physical attacks. More details will be coming soon!

4nicYb8.png

Yhol-Yin - The "Monk" class of the game. This class focuses on dealing intense fire damage and making the party more efficient at managing its MP. More details will be coming soon!

dGLzqoA.png

Palyth - The classic "Tank" class of the game. This class auto taunts all damage and allows Sylphie's basic attack to generate a barrier that halves damage, and her Greater Attack to produce a barrier that nullifies damage for one attack. This class's abilities are all centered around lowering the damage the opponent deals, but unfortunately it doesn't deal very high damage on its own. Upon changing to this class Sylphie will grant a barrier that temporarily halves damage to all allies.

sF9NX2V.png

Vahl-Cre - This class will focus on buffing allies and debuffing enemies. It also has access to powerful regens and nature elemental damage. More details will be coming soon!

896VkL6.png

Vuardra - The "Dragoon" class that focuses on dealing high damage to fiends. This class's basic attack inflicts Lightning Imperil on the target and many of her most powerful abilities deal intense electrical damage. This class also has a unique gimmick where whenever Sylphie is in critical hp, she produces a black barrier that doubles her attack and reduces all damage received to 10%. The barrier also auto taunts enemies, which turns her into a super powerful, damage oriented tank that can sweep battles. On top of this all of her attacks in this class will reduce her own hp until she reaches critical. This is one of the most damaging classes in the game but watch out, some enemies will deal fixed damage as a counter.

tGFKGSW.png

Galvux - A class that focuses on dealing physical damage to multiple enemies. Although Rivna's stats in this class leave much to be desired this class has access to some extremely powerful attacks. For starters her normal attack and greater attack deal more damage than any other class's in the game and she gets access to Super Galvux Buster, a machine gun that uses up a lot of Mana but deals extraordinary physical damage, and is a serious boss killer. This class's kit revolves around the damage of the Super Galvux Buster ability and will heavily reward the player if they invest into it.

utX0Auj.png

Jynnth - The de facto "Ninja" class. It's easily the speediest class and boast the highest evasion stat in the game. This class deals excellent water and dark damage and excels at reducing the enemy's evasion and accuracy. She auto physical taunts to keep the party safe with her high evasion. Upon changing to this class in battle it grants the entire party +50% evasion for 2 turns.

tkBE9gZ.png

Dancer - A class that focuses on buffing the power of her allies' attacks. More details coming soon!

Battles are traditional turn based and revolve around counter attacks, leaving each turn to last for a rather long time. The key to winning battles is to equip the right abilities before going into battle and having each character be the correct class for the right turn against bosses. Some turns will require a lot of healing, while others will require a lot of damage to be dealt, and many a mixture of both. Mix and match class combinations in battle to be victorious, because this game will be challenging!

Hey guys! I have a small update here that glosses over a class and the very first dungeon of the game. I won't spoil much but you wake up in a labyrinth of a tomb and have to find your friends(other party members) and a way out. It still needs to be evented but when the dungeon is over all four girls and their classes will be unlocked.

Even though the video shows a work in progress there is a lot of information to be gathered from it. For one, you can change your class on the fly with a push of a button while on the map screen. And depending on what class the characters are when a battle starts they will grant a party buff. In the video you can see Zolla's Blavyk Caster class grant a magic damage buff, while her Iynvyk Caster variant heals hp, grants regen, and a magic defense buff. So the player will have to think twice about which class they want to start a battle with.

There are no random encounters in this game. And enemies cannot see you unless they touch you(hurray for playing as a Magi!), however upon exiting and reentering the map they will respawn. So you can pick and choose your battles and grind with little to no hassle.

Almost every skill in the game can be leveled up. As some of you may have noticed most counter attacks consume Mana in this game. However, you can reduce the amount of Mana that is consumed by leveled up your skills. The max level for a skill is 20 and each level up boosts its damage by +25%. Simply using the skill will level it up and even counter attacks count towards leveling it up. Basic attacks can also be leveled up and the higher their level is the more Mana they restore when used.

Basic Attacks and Greater Attacks are displayed here. Basic Attacks are well, basic. They restore the user's Mana whenever they are used. Greater Attacks are far more interesting and beneficial. Each class has a 20% chance to perform a Greater Attack in place of their Basic Attack and all Greater Attacks provide some sort of bonus that's tied into each class's gimmick. Greater Attacks also restore a lot more Mana when used. Zolla's Basic Attack as a Blavyk Caster can be seen here(1:44), and the Greater Attack version can be seen here(2:12).

In the next update I'll go over equipment and how attaching runes to your weapons and armor can drastically change the gameplay.

tbdkSCx.png

Zoh-Gyn - Today I want to spotlight the "Samurai" class. As mentioned in the op it focuses on critical hits. It's an extremely powerful physically offensive class that can put out some silly high damage in the right circumstances. The Zoh-Gyn is rather unique to the other damage classes in that its basic attack is actually its main source of damage. When certain conditions are met within a turn her basic attack gets upgrading to the extremely powerful "Uzunagi Strike". As such her entire kit revolves around that one simple yet effective attack. This class also provides some nice sustain by restoring 5% of Zolla's maximum hp whenever she lands a critical hit.

mEaeQfw.png
Uzunagi Stance - While Zolla is under this state she taunts physical attacks, gains a physical evasion and critical rate buff, and her basic attack gets upgraded to Uzunagi Strike(which can be seen at 3:42 in the video). Uzunagi Strike is one of the most powerful physical attacks in the game and it can be leveled up with repeated uses. To obtain this state Zolla must reach 12 Uzunagi stacks. Whenever she performs a Greater Attack she will obtain 2 Uzunagi stacks, and whenever she successfully dodges an attack she will obtain 1 Uzunagi stack. Whenever she gains a stack you will see sakura petals briefly float around her, and upon achieving at least 2 stacks she will always counter with her Greater Attack in place of her basic attack. When the turn ends her Uzunagi stacks will reset to 0, however if you start the battle as this class then she will start off with 6 stacks instead of 0.

szhfU3R.png
Flash Cut - This attack blinds the opponent and deals decent damage for how little Mana it costs. Zolla will counter with this ability if the opponent can be blinded. This ability can be leveled up and it grants Zolla 3 Uzunagi stacks whenever it is used.

dcBofAe.png
Gyn-Zynkata -
Zolla swings out six projectiles from her sword onto random targets that deal very high damage. The Mana cost is rather high but it can be leveled up. Zolla will counter with this ability if there are two or more opponents and it grants her 4 Uzunagi stacks whenever it is used(this move can be seen at 4:32).

This class has more skills but I'll share them on a later date.

Hey guys! The release of the first available demo for the game is swiftly approaching and right now I want to give you guys a peak at what I've been working on. The video below is rather long and there is a lot of information to be gathered from it but hopefully you guys will enjoy it. Also please keep in mind that what you see in the video is a work in progress and the framerate is low because my laptop becomes a potato when recording.

ZUfjVg7.png

Scarlet Caster - This class is basically the "Red Mage" of the game. It's strong both physically and magically. It functions pretty similarly to how it did in Mana Raiders but in this game it's powered up since you're playing as a powerful demon. One major standout is that Aphita will always follow up a magical attack will her basic attack. So casting spells is encouraged. Also all of her attacks that are related to her rapier will deal extra critical hit damage. Her basic attack will also instantly refill all of her MP if you score a critical hit with it.

Ln4ohq2.png
Red Riposte - This state was in Mana Raiders and it would grant the user a buff if they successfully timed a parry attack. Since there is no parrying in this game the user will gain the state if they successfully evade an attack. Naturally, whenever Aphita casts an offensive spell she will triple cast it on up to three random enemies. However, with this state she will cast it up to six times, and the last three casts will deal double damage. It's quite potent in the right situation. Aphita's greater attack will instantly grant this state to her and whenever she starts a battle as this class she will have this state.

wPUD4rp.png
Scarlet Strike - Another move that returned from Mana Raiders. It functions pretty much exactly the same except it grants Red Riposte if an enemy was killed with it. Overall it's much stronger in this game though. And remember, having Red Riposte while using this skill will greatly boosts its damage.

sF9NX2V.png

Vahl-Cre - This class focuses on debuffing the enemy. This class is extremely versatile and I won't cover all of the details in this post but I do have some tidbits to share. She will begin every battle by fully buffing the party's physical and magical defense by 60% for one turn. Her basic attack lowers the enemy's attack 30%, and her Greater Attack lowers their attack by 60%.

DXOGkdy.png

Poison Ballad - Sylphie blows a horn that poisons all enemies. She actually has multiple "Horn" abilities but only this move was shown in the video. As a side note there aren't that many status effects in this game but the ones that are present are extremely powerful and useful. In most rpgs poison isn't really a big deal, especially mid to late game but here being poisoned reduces your hp by a whopping 30% at the end of each turn. Ouch. In the last battle in the video that beefy group of enemies was exterminated by this move.

9vkCARl.png

Sure Shot - Some enemies have very high evasion and will be a pain to deal with unless you debuff them. This move takes care of that problem. It's a certain hit move so you never have to worry about it missing. It's cheap to cast too. Sylphie will always counter with this move first before using anything else(if she has enough mp of course).

Wf70z8u.png

Syrrna Arrows - The more powerful enemies will usually begin a battle with some buffs, and at the end of every turn their buffs will be reapplied. This move completely wipes away all of their buffs for the turn. It's a little on the expensive side but there is an accessory that can be acquired later on in the game to make this move deal some pretty big damage. Some of the other girls will have a move that strips enemies of their buffs so you won't be hogtied to this class to debuff the enemy.

mmY2jhm.png

Fire Arrows - This is actually an item equip, not an ability. In the video you can see Sylphie destroying everything with her basic attack and this is why. Sylphie's Goddess Bow can equip different types of arrows that will each alter her basic attack(the equip screen can be seen around the 5 min mark). The fire arrows double the power of her basic attack and make it the element of fire. There are some other weapons in the game that have similar unique equip slots besides Runes and Crystals. One example is Rivna's Galvux class. It has a unique ammunition slot that will allow the player to equipment different types of bullets to her machine gun weapon.

tkBE9gZ.png

Dancer - This is a pretty dynamic class. For starters it has high agility and evasion, and her basic attack lowers the enemy's defense by 30%(GA lowers it by 60%). This class focuses on debuffing the enemy's elemental resistances and buffing the party. Not all of the class's skills are listed below.

EFO3u8q.png

Magic Rhythm - This is a special state that when applied allows Rivna to basically dodge every attack in the game. Her basic attack gets replaced with a "Boost Ally" command, which restores their hp and mp by 100%, raises their critical hit rate by 100%, their physical and magical evasion by 50%, and grants them taunt. Boost Ally is extremely powerful but Rivna loses the Magic Rhythm state whenever she uses it, and since her defensive stats are the lowest in the game she really needs that extra evasion to survive. She can gain this state by successfully evading an attack or by performing a Greater Attack. Rivna will automatically have this state if she begins the battle as this class.

MFHJ13S.png

Power Rhythm - This is the other version of Magic Rhythm. Whenever Rivna is the last woman standing, or is fighting solo, this state will automatically activate and stay activated. It provides a decent evasion boost, but its biggest boon is that it triples the power of all of Rivna's attacks and greatly boosts her critical hit rate.

3U1S6RC.png

Sakura Sanpo - One of Rivna's most powerful attacks. Rivna dances around the opposite side of the battlefield, damaging all enemies. This applies some nasty debuffs to them and the best part is that it doesn't trigger the enemy's counter attacks, making this relatively safe to use for the frail class.

YkM2gMk.png

Heat Dance - This move functions similarly to the above listed move, except it applies a fire imperil to all enemies by 200%. If Rivna is affected by Magic Rhythm then the imperil will be 300%. This too does not trigger the enemy's counter attack.

The video shows off the hub world and several battles. This game will have three main modes: Gethelese, which is the main campaign, the Abyssal Trials, which is similar to the Nightmare Realm I've been teasing for Mana Raiders, and the Hall of Horrors, which requires some puzzle solving and tricky battles. While each mode is briefly shown off in the video it's still too early to reveal any more details about them, so just stay tuned.

Still impressive.

I like the idea of the gates flying vessel.

Also, the counter state is a very important mechanism in yours games. This is quite rare.

Keep on with the excellent work!

That's because it gives me the most control over the battle system, especially since I have very limited programing knowledge. Also, counter attacks in general are inherently engaging, so giving the player more options while on defense adds a lot to the gameplay and its replay value.

Galvux - This class is the queen of physical damage. It excels at clearing normal enemies and even bosses that are vulnerable to physical damage. Its base stats are extremely low but its skills have very high damage potencies, meaning that with some decent equipment investment it can be a real monster in battle. However, even with good equipment investment it doesn't have many ways to keep itself alive, so placing taunt on this class to trigger its powerful counter attacks will be very risky. In Mana Raiders this class was all about relying on rng to deal high damage. In this game the high damage it dishes out is very consistent but to take advantage of the true power of this class you'll need to manage it's unique buffs properly.

Its Basic Attack is the strongest in the game and the player can equip different ammunition on their weapon to apply status affects onto the enemy. It's Greater Attack deals more damage than most skills in the game so needless to say equipping Greater Attack Runes(which improves the user's odds of performing a Greater Attack) will be quite beneficial. Because Rivna's Dancer class is extremely strong this class makes up for it but being powerful with very little setup since it ultimately lacks utility.

At the beginning of every battle this class will apply an armor piercing buff to the whole party.

Artillery Overdrive - This is the Galvux's main buff. It lasts for two turns and completely boosts the effectiveness of all of the other skills of this class. It also negates critical damage and taunts enemies. Needless to say you'll want this buff up at all times. Rivna will automatically begin battles in this state if it is equipped to her.

Bs93FJp.png

Galvux Defense -
This is a passive skill that has a 30% chance to completely negate the damage of an incoming attack. It also removes most status ailments from Rivna upon procing. This is the Galvux's only form of defense so luck can play a huge factor in its survival sometimes. There is an accessory item that increases the odds to 60%. During Artillery Overdrive this doubles the odds of negating damage and combined with the accessory equip it has a 100% chance of procing! But don't get too excited though, there are some attacks that ignore this negation barrier. You can see this barrier procing in the video below.

92f9oW8.png

Super Gatling Buster -
An extremely powerful gatling attack that fires fifty rounds onto random targets. This move deals more damage than most attacks in the game and during Artillery Overdrive it replaces Rivna's basic attack. The mana cost for this move is quite expensive it probably won't be used much outside of Artillery Overdrive.

fEjmCJ5.png

Reduction Bomb -
This bomb applies a state that reduces the enemy's armor value by 10%. During Artillery Overdrive it's 20% and it deals more damage. It counters foes that are not affected by the state. This move is a very important debuff in that there aren't many skills that reduce the enemy's armor value so this is actually the Galvux's best utility move.

D8nUutn.png

Ignition Bomb - This move is pretty much ripped straight out of Mana Raiders. It throws a random number of bombs that deal extra damage to targets that are under the "Ignited" status. Being that it has a low MP cost and deals solid damage its great to equip along with the Flame Buster in most battles where the enemy isn't immune or absorbs fire damage. This move counters foes that are Ignited and actually deals non-elemental damage. During Artillery Overdrive the odds of throwing more bombs is increased.

6ADo957.png

Blavyk Bomb - Rivna throws a powerful bomb that deals non-elemental damage to it's target. If the target is affected by the Blavyk Spark(a state that can only be applied by Zolla) status then the damage is increased significantly and has a very high chance to stun them. This move counters foes affected Blavyk Spark. During Artillery Overdrive the damage is increased significantly.

OKdzd0h.png

Flame Buster - Unleashes a flamethrower onto five random targets and has a high chance to Ignite them, which deals damage over time and lowers their attack and defense. During Artillery Overdrive it hits all enemies and deals significantly more damage. Counters foes weak to fire damage.

WqEuC90.png

Bio Buster - Fires five corrosive rounds onto random targets and has a chance to apply Corrosion, which deals damage over time and makes the foe more vulnerable to fire damage. During Artillery Overdrive the damage is boosted significantly and hits all targets. Counters foes weak to nature damage.

v8KAndm.png

Dust Buster - Shoots eight dust particles onto random targets and has a small chance to blind them. During Artillery Overdrive the damage is boosted significantly and hits all targets. Counters foes weak to rock damage.

yhAyzFB.png

Plasma Buster - Shoots eight electrical volts of electricity onto random targets that has a small chance to stun them. During Artillery Overdrive the damage is boosted significantly and hits all targets. Counters foes weak to electrical damage.

wBOl9EM.png

Aqua Buster - Fire five rounds of water at random targets and drenches them. Drenched targets take half damage from fire attacks but double damage from electrical attacks. During Artillery Overdrive the damage is boosted significantly and hits all targets. Counters foes weak to water damage.

kpnH8FS.png

Chain Buster - Rivna leaps at the target and grinds them up with a powerful chainsaw. This move applies the "Vulnerable" debuff, which causes the target to take double damage, and has a high chance to stun them. This move deals a lot more damage than most of her other attacks but its only used as a counter if the target is not under the "Vulnerable" state. During Artillery Overdrive Rivna strikes the foes twice with this move which can be seen frequently in the video below.

This is quick video highlighting this class when under the Artillery Overdrive buff. It showcases all of the "Buster" skills. Unfortunately during the recording the video was cropped off a little but and I didn't catch it until it was too late but it still showcases all of the action.
