Wrote a plugin today that allows you to assign BGM, Battlebacks, and even Battle Entry SE's on a per-troop basis. Introducing a random encounter with a high-pitched Chicken Squeal is worth it all by itself.
Hi! I loe your desert NPCs for adding some variety. I've used them in a free game (The Snow Elf on Itch.io) and I'd love to use them in the new game I'm working on, which I hope to release commercially. I'd love your permission if I could have it!

So I figured out how to put words and pictures in the screen transition. It even wipes away from both the top and bottom. The possibilities are endless! :LZSexcite: I'm going to devise secret messages now for them because I'm a terrible wonderful person like that. :kaopride:
December has arrived and with that, an ¡update for Aletoir Feast! a game made it for the One Map Challenge. I will use some of the remaining switches, variables, and events from the challenge limit to add more content but keep it within the requirements. ¡Have a nice day Everybody!
It seems MOG Weather only has a "clear" function to instantly erase a given weather effect. Probably works well if weather only changes at map transfer, etc, but looks very abrupt if weather effects are continuously changing. So my next challenge: script a "fade" function to gradually fade the sprites and wait to "clear" the current weather until the opacity of all its sprites hits zero... or something like that! XD
BRIEF HISTORY OF MY GAME SO FAR
June 2019 - My friend (let's call him G) says he wants to make a game
later- it's really bad and angsty
laterer - He gives up

EARLY 2020 - I suggest trying again, G says yes
slightly later - G gives up and gives me the whole idea
LATE 2020 - I finish the script's first draft. G doesn't like it

And that's where we stand!

If G is not prepared to put in the time and effort, after experiencing what's involved in making a game, and is happy to pass it to you but not happy with your work, then I'd say it's time for G to give up all aspects of game making and to do something he enjoys and will commit to, and for you to make a game for yourself, not for G.

@Shaz I agree with you! I have been making this game for myself, I really think my adaptation of the concept is going to work. G has taken up making a Webcomic, asking for small amounts of help where reasonable. Originally, he wanted to make the game in Scratch, though! (No offense if you're reading this G!)

@Doinathing, Scratch? Wow. (He says with two Scratch tabs open currently haha) RPG Maker is much more intuitive and versatile than Scratch, trust me.
To get validation for all your hard work feels amazing.

Studio Blue did a video on Collector and enjoyed it a lot. I expected them to rip it to shreds, but the gameplay went (mostly) well.

There are things I can improve, but they said my game "oozes Mike Pondsmith" (he's the creator of the Cyberpunk 2020 ttrpg, which precedes Cyberpunk 2077). I was shocked to hear such a compliment! :kaopride:

Studio Blue is really good at giving feedback without ripping the game to shreds at the same time.

Yeah, they gave me great advice.
does there exist a word for a state of being that is between "living" and (not "dead", but ...) "not living" .... does that make sense, or do I just sound like Im high for something :[ ?

Homunculus (In the psychological definition, not the mythological) would be the closest to what you are describing in English I think. You could also qualify your life with the word anesthetized, saying one is living an anesthetized life would literally be saying that you are going through the motions, completely numb and inattentive to the world around you.

Isn't that the very nature of undead? People characterize zombies as undead but vampires and such are classified with this as well. Surely it would apply to all that live without life as well. However the answer @Philosophus Vagus gave, the homunculus would be what I would use in many situations. If you are meaning literally dead but alive...

*comatose*.
biologically alive, but cognitively unresponsive.
if we're talking inter-dimensional existence, "phased": alive in both the material and ethereal planes.
if we're talking restoration from death, "undead"

WIP for a new map. :LZSexcite:

Further along, and look space has decided it's dark now... Got to love the randomly generated backgrounds. :LZSwink:

I had the greatest shower idea... You start out super powerful and instead level in reverse losing power as the levels continue. If you want to avoid the reduction, you collect the power ups to simply maintain status quo. Either way levels get harder. That should help convey the feeling of hopelessness this chapter wants. :LZSexcite:

Moderators, you must have so much patience to be able to deal with everything. I mod in a server of sorts and today we just got a message, which, despite it's helpful constructive criticism, basically stated that all of the mods were jerks and that was the only reason our server was unlikeable. So, thank you, for having patience. You are appreciated! :kaoluv:

I've seen some jerk mods on some subreddit pages and you guys are certainly not jerks! You make sure the rules are followed but you're not mean about it. It seems like you guys do a lot to support the community too. That's exactly how mods should be.

You'll get some that just don't want to be told what to do, and when you do you'll all be called jerks. That's just life sadly.

And yes, we try to not be jerks. As best as possible at least.

Thanks for the compliments. We hold each other to the standard of acting professionally, and I think all of us are doing this because we genuinely want to be a positive impact on the community anyhow - so when there's disarray or we take some abuse from a member, I think those two things help whoever is dealing with the issue show a lot of patience.
Haired slime? Trying some different styles of art. Maybe I can make some resources with this new kind of painting.......
Uh, I'm probably overthinking this, but I think that some of my music sounds kinda...bad?
The melodies are just sort of awkward, and don't flow.
I'm really not sure what to do. Why am I even worrying about this? I don't even have a battle system yet!

Okay, thanks for all the advice on making maps before music! Uh, quick question, how should I plan my areas? I should maybe make a thread about this?

music is a language that needs to be learned.
and as such, if you're used to one particular accent, it might sound weird when you listen the original dialect of another language, pure.
people accustomed to JRPG music will not see how to work with Western music for the same kind of game.... they're fundamentally different, like two different languages.

@gstv87 You said my thoughts exactly!

Someone told me that making music in a DAW is a lot different from playing live. The same person also told me to spend more time on the fifth (dominant), and when I did both of those things, the song I was making got like, ten times better!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
